Tyre Fitter - what have they done?

That's not really excessive wear for 2k mileage something isn't right. Are you 100% sure they changed them the first time? Especially if it's a big chain someone may have thought someone else was doing and they never got done. Did you check them when you picked them up?

This. 2k miles and down to the metal is insane.

******* hell.

If that has happened in only 2K then your problems go Wayyy beyond anything that a mere tyre fitter might have done!

Especially if this has come on suddenly!

What is the car?

That sort of uneven wear has to be due to alignment in some way (or significant suspension issues). However I would also expect the outside of that tyre to have almost no wear on it if the inner side was wearing so fast. I would be suspicious that the tyre hadn't been changed.

EDIT: Could incorrect tyre pressure be the cause?

Only about 2000 miles, they were new on, I'm certain and checked them before I left. Somethings happened and the common consensus is alignment so I'll get that checked this week and then keep a closer look over the next few weeks and months.

Outside isn't badly worn (although hit does look it in the picture).

Yes, alignment

But it doesn't normally go south that quickly or badly unless you have have had a serious knock or something has failed. (It is a bit worrying that you say that you had the tyres replaced as part of an MOT. One would hope that if there was a serious fault with the suspension the MOT should have spotted it but Ho Hummn! :? )

Are you sure that you (Or any other driver) hasn't hit a Kerb or large pothole or something?

I replaced them a week before the MOT, previous tyres were wearing evenly - they'd just got to the end of their life.

Always potential for a pothole, although I can't remember hitting anything really significant but maybe many smaller ones add up. It's the severity and speed of the wear that's concerned me, it has happened since the new ones went on and you can't help thinking - what did they do (not do) but probably just a coincidence.

I'm 100% sure that tyre hasn't done 2000 miles of normal driving. No chance in hell. I've been a technician for 15 years and never saw anything like that in a practically new tyre. I've seen a certain model have an issue with Dunlop tyres where it split at inner edge due to set up of the car. Nothing like that level of wear pretty much across the whole tyre in such a short mileage. I wouldn't even say poor alignment would cause that in 2000 miles tbh.

You should not be driving this car until the tyres are replaced, mate.

I can't imagine how you have not noticed it going from borderline illegal to this.

As I say not many symptoms, until the bad rain over last week where the grip felt really poor; a quick glance at the tyres parked with wheels straight doesn't really reveal anything - outside of the tyre is not warn and to be honest I don't look too closely at new tyres, I'm not expecting them to be knackered in 3 months.

It won't be going anywhere until the tyre's are replaced - I wouldn't knowingly drive it like that.

I drive very normally, on mostly A and B roads, 200 mile or so a week.

too much negative camber or toeing the in or out the wrong way, that's quite evening worn across the tread, ie you havnt got 8mm on the outer and non on the inner.

get down to a decent alignment place and that should solve that issue
