Hi all,

I'm looking for a decent USB-C 4k or 5k screen for my MBP. I'll be using it with a henge dock which I believe is USB-C. Ideally it needs to be 27" so it lines up perfectly with my 24" UW for my gaming PC.

Any recommendations?

I've just ordered the LG 27UK850-W for pretty much the same reasons as you - I wanted USB type C, I wanted to move into the 4K world and I wanted good quality, this seemed to be one of the few to tick the boxes. It's arriving tomorrow, can't wait.

That's the one I seem to have settled on as well, sure, it's not 5K like the Apple/LG one, but it doesn't appear to have any of the drawbacks. The only thing for me is that my desk is in my living room and you can see the backs of the monitors, my current gaming monitor for the PC has a black back and the LG has a white back. I think it may look a little silly.

Well I have it, and it's connected to my PC via HDMI at the moment (waiting for the new mBP to arrive) and it's damn good so far. Tiny Bezels, much brighter and not a furnace in comparison to my good old Dell U3011.

I'll have a think. Not sure if OcUK stock it but I've seen it online for under £500. Currently using a U2713 which is fine, but would prefer something a little sharper plus USB-C is a huge benefit.

Does Mac OS scale high res on external monitors as well as the laptop's display?

Yeah I didn't purchase from OcUK, I am not sure why they don't have stock on this - it was disappointing, but at the end of the day I wanted it next-day so I went elsewhere.

I'd always wondered this, as I've never got it working properly. I can select different scaling, but it just goes blurry :/

I have never experienced scaling issues in MacOS - I have admittedly never connected a 4k monitor yet (this is my first) but I have had multiple Hi-Resolution monitors over the years, from 2560x1600 to 3440x1440 and never had any issues. Always looked extremely sharp.

I've had the LG 27UK850-W since it released I think back in May this year. It's an amazing screen, my only gripe with it is that it only outputs power to charge my laptop when switched on, which means the laptop battery slowly drains whilst the screen is off and is therefore putting unnecessary charge cycles on the battery. I keep meaning to just plug my charger in as a work around but I haven't gotten around to it yet...
