I’ve promised a holiday as an 18th Birthday present for my daughter...I said you can choose anywhere in the world to go for two weeks...( work commitments) Last year when we were discussing it she said she fancied New York..and few other states....However she is slowly going off the idea...maybe Trump lol...

I fancy India...I wanted to go somewhere with things do and a trip to remember...

I have two weeks off over Easter...

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Something to open her horizons/worldview would be a good experience for you both. Certainly better than laying on a beach in the Caribbean for two weeks! India is a good shout although might be tough for a first time traveller (if she hasn't already done a bit of travelling?).

I'd steer clear of the States personally. Maybe Cuba? We travelled around Cuba for 3 weeks, amazing place. Or Sri Lanka is popular right now. Anywhere in Asia.. Vietnam, Cambodia. Japan would probably be a bit difficult.

I'd say anywhere they don't speak English :)

On a serious note we want to go to Mexico next (for big holiday). Mainly I want to see the monarch butterfly migration!
But if it was anywhere in the world? Tough one! Really depends on what you like doing!

I'm a nature/architecture/history/ocean lover

So Vegas and new York would be torture

Nile Cruise, visit all the sites including Abu Simbel then up to Cairo for the Pyramids, Cairo Museum, Saqqara, Memphis and the Red Pyramid.
My daughters loved it.

Yeah exactly that...open both of our horizons ...experience....Beach? No...I’ll do that over summer for a week...we went to Spain August just gone with my sister family...fine for chilling but not a lifetime experience... lol

Exploring new cultures...food...pottering about...doing stuff...I went to Vegas and 2 nights was enough before I set off to LA and San Francisco

Not keen on cruises....feel trapped...

I'd quite fancy Japan.

Japan is a possibility....she has recently come back from China on a college trip...she loved it...but I think I might get done in my tech and lights....I like nature too...

Can I just say you started this thread saying that this was a present for your daughter's birthday yet so far, from what you have written right from the latter half of your OP is where YOU want to go and things YOU want to do.

Doesn't seem like it's a present for her at all, if it was then you'd be letting her chose the destination & activities carte blanche.

Not really...we talked about it...she is not interested in tourist , Disney crap...in fact she actually suggested a journey, an exploration herself....she went to ayia napa with her mates...:p

Hence my OP...She wont choose anywhere that she will know I won’t enjoy...we do know each other...it will be a journey of discovery for both of us...

It’s not about me...but she a bright kid...and she has no intention of going away with her dad to just anywhere....she aware it’s once in a lifetime trip...as in ticking a bucket list....

Vegas I get but New York has some amazing architecture.

I am going to throw in Hong Kong and Tokyo into the suggested mix.

Can I get spiritual vibes there ? Where did you go ?

Japan always to me feels like consumerism....

This may sound strange but Japan is a very quiet place, a very peaceful place, despite ALL those people, the streets are very quiet so in general I found the whole place very spiritual, especially if you step outside Tokyo. Even more so if you don't go to the famous temples or shrine but the less famous ones. However, despite all that, and I did go to all the main ones, I felt peace amongst it all and I went all over.

The commercialism is just one side and to be fair, it's very compartmentalised within certain areas of the city.

The orange dot is where i took a photo, aka where i went.

Cuba.

Curveball suggestion, Moscow, I have a mate who went to both last year and I’m sick of him banging on about how epic both trips were (he didn’t go to Moscow for the World Cup by the way, nor is he a communist to my knowledge:D)

A week rafting down the grand canyon...Easter might be too early season...then a week MTB or hiking in a national park.
