How much will i lose selling car damaged compared to fixing?

If you were closer i'd have offered to fit them for you. Know my way around these things with my eyes closed now.
How far are you? Could still work out cheaper driving and paying you for your time than using an overpriced body repair shop

those parts are cheap !!!!!!...........postage might cost you 30 quid
I know seem too good to be true. I’m contacting him as soon as I get up In the morning. Yeh i was concerned the postage might end up as much as the bumper lol

Messaged the guy last night and he’s said this morning he has a guy supposedly coming tomorrow for it :( but if he doesn’t show then he will let me know

surely its not even worth faffing about with the car is worth pennies. when someone comes to look at the car just lean on that bit with your hand.

Ask a local scally to thieve you one for a bag..... :p :D

Joking apart I’d certainly fix it prior to selling, even if it costs you £300 or so, it’ll be much more sellable.
:p they would have a job finding another performance blue Mondeo lol.
It will be more than 300 most sellers want close to £150 for a scabby bumper that will still need to be stripped, primed and re sprayed.

How is it priced compared to other ST220's of similar age/mileage, as that's ultimately what you've got to complete against.

Playing devil's advocate, anyone looking might think you've been in an accident and flogging it without knowing what damage is behind the bumper could lead to future problems for a new owner. We're not talking scratches or small dents here.

Thanks for your arrogant input it really helped. Don’t know how well off you are but £2300 to me isn’t pennies! Any car 1k or under I would class as shed money that I would have no problem scrapping if something major broke but this car was worth 2.3k before the damage so I was wanting opinions on if it’s worth the hassle of trying to get it fixed or sell as it is but will potentially put a lot of buyers off what is a great car.

i would just take a little hit on the sale price, looking at that pic the bumper was shot before the hole in it.

The problem is it might not ba a little hit. Whilst these are relatively cheap to buy they are not cheap to run, you don't buy an ST220 for a cheap runaround so buyers are likely to be looking for a decent one, lots will just walk away to look for another.

Whilst he didn't put it very politely, he does have a point. If I was buying an older Mondeo, even an ST220, I wouldn't be concerned about a bit of bumper damage. I might use it as an excuse to knock a few hundred off the price, but it's an old car and not a very expensive one: I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near mint condition. 2300 isn't pennies, but it's at the lower end of the car buying market, where most people are more concerned with the mechanical condition of the car than anything else. The last cheap car I bought was cosmetically a mess, but I didn't care because it was mechanically sound.

To be fair there appears to be quite a few (9 from a quick search) STs being broken for spares in eBay in performance blue. Just search "mondeo st breaking". Surely one of them will still have the front bumper available .

I'd disagree. You wouldn't be buying an ST220 for a cheap car, you'd have to be stupid to buy a car that will happily do 14mpg around town and cost you £550 a year in tax, also being a member of one of the owners groups people do indeed want tidy ones.

The dogs get bought cheap to break for parts, usually for around £600.

The problem with that damage is that it looks like it's had a reasonable shunt and as a minimum bent brackets with a big question mark over any further damage behind the bumper or underneath etc.

The cost of repair may be irrelevant to the perception here which may put 90%+ of potential buyers off immediately.

People shopping for an st220 will look for a good one or a very cheap one.

It's worth repairing it.

With the others here, dont spend the time and worry on a car which pre accident was only worth £2300. eBay it at a starting of £1500 and see where you get would be my tack personally. You dont need to put effort into this car. Likely you'll get within that projected £500 difference anyway with no hassle from yourself.

just messaged a bunch before. 2 already said sold frront bumper, 2 more have got back to me saying already sold them, waiting on 2 others to get back to me. problem is aswell the 2002-2005 looks a slightly different shade of performance blue compared to the 2006/7's and most of them offering parts are the 06/07's
Went down to speak to another bodyshop repair before he said my cheapest option is to get the bumper repaired bent back into place etc and they will sort the cracked bit out and patch up the lower grill part for £400 he thinks it will look pretty much how it did originally and i should be able to sell it on for the original asking price. He said getting another bumper pulled off a car thats a different colour would cost more to prime and re spray etc.
