Anyone have a RTX 2080ti MSI Gaming X Trio and possibly i9 9900K already?

Hi everyone,

I hope you are well. I'm looking at getting the MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 2080ti, as the 2070 and 2080 make no damn sense. Anyone got one of these cards yet and happens to play VR (maybe a Pimax)? I`ll also be looking at the, i9 9900K which is overpriced (isn't everything!?!), but some games require decent CPU i.e. Flight sims (DCS). If anyone has similar specs lined up/on the way. Please let me know. Will be very interested in how they perform together. Thank you.

Have you seen benchmarks that indicate a 9900K offers benefit in VR or games at the resolution you play at (you don't mention) over the alternatives (e.g 2700X or 8700K), and if so, is that improvement justified by the extortionate price in your opinion? Don't just go with the "IT FASTEST!" brigage of loons who must have the best and fastest of everything with zero consideration for value.

Value has its place for sure, but if money isn't a serious consideration, then you cannot deny that a RTX2080ti and i9900k will be the fastest non HEDT things you can get.

Of course it's the fastest combination... that's not being disputed, but at higher resolutions that gap rapidly diminishes, so again that cost/performance ratio starts to look horrendous by anyone's definition, and ignoring that would be rather foolish.

To whom exactly is "money of no consideration"? Who are these people exactly? In my experience, people I've known with serious money have TREMENDOUS respect for its value, far more than the average person off the street actually. It's only lottery winners, young Premiership footballers and spoilt rich kids that don't. Those who've never really worked or attained any respect for it. Those are the only people who truly have no serious consideration for money and the value of things. That isn't to say there aren't plenty of people out there like that though, because there certainly are.

I would argue the majority of people who buy these CPUs will simply do so because they genuinely think it's worth it. It may be hard to believe, but most people don't read forums or even reviews. They'll just recognise Intel, assume they are the best as they certainly have strong branding and market presence that extends even beyond tech circles, and fall for all the marketing hype. They won't buy it because they want to throw their money away or because they don't consider value to be important... they just won't know any better.

I doubt very few have this combo yet as MSI cards are shipping very small volumes.

Most places don’t have 9900k in stock, yes OcUK has stock and has shipped a few hundred units so far but not shipped any MSI.

When I look at our orders some people did buy a 9900k and Palit 2080ti together, no doubt because both are in stock.

I've seen some VR channels with 2080ti, but not with the 9900K as well. The 8700K apparently becomes the bottleneck with that graphics card (dependant on the game engine).

Thanks. Palit always seems to be in stock because everyone wants to go for slightly better :) Not long until they get into the hands of VR reviewers. Looking at the combi of MSI 2080ti and 9900K to see what can be squeezed out of them. That's the reason why I was specifically asking about them both being used in VR yet. Soon! :D

I honestly cannot foresee it making that much of a difference, not one that justifies the price difference anyway. Any difference would be relatively small, and if it is making the difference between VR being unplayable and playable, then clearly it would still only just be crossing that threshold. So you really have to consider the value there.

Palit are very rarely mentioned when it comes to reviews or breaking records.

2080ti does add quite a jump to FPS in VR. I watched a youtuber with the 2080ti + 8700K, it will be very interesting to see what he squeezes out of his i9 9900K when it's on the way.

I completely agree with the absolute new hole that both Nvidia and Intel are tearing out of the enthusiasts, I almost choked when I seen the price

If you think they make no sense then you may wanna look at the MSI 2080ti "Duke" as getting the Gaming X makes even less sense. The Duke is cheaper than the Gaming X and due to no longer being a budget card actually runs cooler/quieter and no human would notice a performance difference between the two.

Duke is better than Gaming X? I`ll check the stats between 1080 ti variants and see what comes of RTX 2080 ti ;)
