I didn't know that hot chocolate came brand new with a warranty, its amazing what you learn on these forums.

The hate for the new RTX range is really bizarre, here the question was which card between a 1080 and 2070 and clearly the 2070 is the better card, on here it is cheaper at the moment, it is ever so slightly faster, according to most reviews and it has the promise of future features, regardless of how well it will run them, it is just the better option. A new 1080ti is over 40% dearer, on that premise alone it is not an option.

What’s wrong with recommending a better option when neither of the suggested options was logical?

If OP wants a brand new GPU and simply refuse to use anything other than absolutely untainted hardware then sure, RTX2070 is a better choice strictly based on the new price.

But if the OP can bare using second hand hardware, then it’ll be far more logical to hunt for 1080Ti from EVGA or other brands with original invoices.

And RTX still has no evidence of being beneficial yet, before said evidence surfaces, recommendations should be based on performance metrics. Whether you believe that NV will implement RTX well is your choice, but recommendations for others should be based on facts, not beliefs.

Think they're probably talking about some of the high priced 2070 - there are some around £670.
Question has been answered really. 2070 is the one to go for if buying new is the only option. It does also have unknown future potential too.
Used, a 1080 TI wouldn't be a bad option but I'd be looking at how old the GPU is and pricing accordingly, somewhere around £420 to include RMSD (IMO anyway). I'd also only buy from the MM personally too.

If it were me I would go for a 2070 over a 1080 every time. I wonder tho ( and I have not bought team red for some time) but should a Vega 64 be up for consideration if that is the max price (£450ish)
As for which one... I would never ever buy a top of the range lower tier card that was starting to encroach on the price of the tier above... Ie the most expensive 2070s are getting close to basic 2080s and 1080tis. Imo that would be ludicrous, if you go 2070 go for the cheapest you can imo

If Ray tracing isn’t a deal breaker then I’d go for the very much better performance of a used 1080ti over the 2070, given the 1080ti trades blows with the 2080 it’s a no brainier to me so long as your mate is happy to go for a used 1080ti.

I wouldn’t pay retail on either the 2070 or the 1080ti to be honest.

Depending on use case though going higher than a 1070 is a necessity. A 1080ti is an ok 4k GPU but any lower not really up to it and a 1070 can't run the new pimax vr hmds

You'd be surprised how well a 1070 handles 4k.

Well, if he's not bothered about ray tracing then it's a simple case of which one can he afford as price/performance is the only difference between the two. Percentage wise the extra cost of the 2080 is smaller than the performance uplift, but it depends if he wants to blow another ~£50.

The lower end cards there won't last 3 years.

In fairness, as he's moving on from a 2GB card that's over six years old I'm sure any of those cards would last him over three years.

The GTX1070 can run 4k fine for non demanding gamers, knock a few settings that make no difference down and at 4k its not laggy. This is on a laptop also so desktop would be even better.

My 2080 is giving me between 100-200 fps in BlackOps at 1440p with max settings, that's Duos and Squad runs for the BR version of it, Zombie stuff is usually never below 130.

If you're buying brand new the 2070 is a fine card compared to the 1080. If the DLSS ends up to be what NVIDIA promise, it'll be a far superior card.

There are other game engines available that a 2080 won't get over 100fps @1440p, it all depends on the game, and the COD engine is not particularly new.

Just because you can spend the 1080ti money on a 2070 doesn't mean you have to.

cheapest 1080ti on here. £650
cheapest 2070 on here. £460

So no you cannot get a 1080ti for the price of a 2070.
