Virgin Media Discussion Thread

My building currently only has 6mbps broadband but we're getting Virgin Media in at some point! Is the Vivid 50 at 32 quid per month with 70 channels worth it? Will I get 10mbps download with that? Is there throttling?

Send me a message, I can get a better deal!

I'm on 350MB fibre, speedtest.net is showing a speed of 150mb, it usually shows around 350mb. It's been like this for the past week or so, is there anything I can use that will show my true connection speed? I've never really lost speed before

That will be right, I've had reduced speeds a few times in my time with them, is normally down to over utilisation in your area.

Call them and get them to investigate it.

Is this at any time of day or during peak times?

Ask them if you started a new contract now you have gone to 100Mb because if you had say 3 months left and asked to go to 100 usually it renews your contract. Which i'm sure means you have the 14 days to cancel? But i guess that's for new customers. But in theory still should mean you should be allowed to go back to your old 50 etc but not sure.

See here where it says a contract renewal has a 14 day cooling off period.

I was with virgin since blueyonder 56k days and was paying for top package.
Last couple of years were terrible, everytime the advertised speeds went up, mine went to pot...and it lasted weeks, sometimes months.
Got sick of phoning up complaining only to be fobbed off with £10 off my bill when I was paying almost £120 at the time.
Dumped them and switched everything to BT and instead of sky movie channels had netflix bundled onto the package.
It is less advertised speed but I always get what I was promised or more 2 years into being with them.
As for customer service, rather than tedious phonecalls I just use the live chat and the service is great.
Oh and when you come to the end of your deals you can just renew them and get cheaper prices all over again.

Noticed over the weekend that my wifi was all messed up at home, logged into the SH3 and it'd been factory reset, wonder if VM have pushed a newer firmware out that causes it to do so, no other issues since I set the wifi networks back up.

I cancelled on the 28th few days ago and got a callback today £27 a month with £50 credit for 18 months for 100mbit which I was paying £34 a month for not the best deal but i'm happy to pay that the offer before was same speed £30 month £30 credit so it is worth holding out.

I was on the phone regarding two accounts the other evening.

Found out that the 12 month line saver was discontinued. However one of them was still able to have the line saver resurrected and apparently if I keep renewing it before it runs out it won't be taken away.

So two identical packages of: 200mb + weekend calls cost me different amounts

£196 for 12 month line saver and £20 a month so... £36.33/month <- not actually changing

the other is, if I sign the contract:

£41 - £3 discount for £38/month (for 6 months rising to £41 for 12 months then £52 after that)

Currently it's £34 + £19 phone rental - £10 discount for £43/month

It's pretty annoying that you are never sure if you're paying a fair price. If you don't say anything they simply increase your bill. Even so I'm now paying two different prices for the same thing.

tired to leave virgin offered 200mb, full house TV and a phone line I don't use for £57/month for 6/12 and told to then call back and get a new deal

ok I said opting for an easy life, only to be emailed a 12month contract £57 for 6 months, increasing to £79/month for the remainder!

anyone else had problems with mis-selling and lying from VM? this is the second time it has happened
