Hi there, I've just moved from a 7700k to a ryzen 2700x, I currently have a H100iV2 which doesn't seem to have AM4 mounting brackets only AM3, is it worth just using the stock wraith cooler and then moving to a noctua or bequiet cooler when I decide to overclock or would you buy a bracket for the H100iV2 ?

It's probably also worth noting that I have a NZXT S340 case which doesn't give me the room to get one of the top end air coolers

Cheers, Mitch.

You can order the am4 bracket for about 4.99 direct from corsair i think.

Edit: You can. I can't link it, but google will help you find the corsair site.

Overclockers have it listed on their website but it is out of stock. I dont know if they will be getting it or if it is discontinued.

For that price i would try the bracket, i would expect it to offer better performance than the stock cooler.

The 'stock' cooler is more than adequate for cooling, depends if you want the noise of the fan ramping up and down on load or not.

When I was playing around with stresstesting my 2700x on stock cooler, it was throttling several times. Noctua fixed that issue. Watercooler even AIO will let your CPU boost further. And Wraith cooler fan is not so silent at least to my ears :D

I see, don't fancy throttling to be honest, I'll probably just order a bracket, or a full custom loop

Trying haha I've always wanted to do one

Yeah that will be something I will look into in the future for sure, custom loops are cool AF though

Indeed they are, had fair share of them myself, but as spare time goes away, I settle for high end air cooler these days :)

Getting more and more tempted, need to have a clear out and I'll get a loop, I hate hoarding stuff so I'll wanna get rid of the old cooler before hand

I'd question the airflow in the case in that case. I can't say I pushed my 2700x ridiculous hard, but after long gaming sessions with the stock cooler, it was never breaking 75C (and this was during the hot summer), can't imagine it easily getting that much hotter to throttle.

I guess overclocked it could push it closer.

It was stock on stock voltages. I was doing some memory testing. And for the fun of it ran some benchmarks. Cpuz was one of them which dropped the score after 15 minutes into the stress test.
And airflow in the case? What if there is no case? ;) Oh by the way wraith was on quiet mode, at least I think it was

:D.

Quiet mode probably the issue then, OP has already mentioned he doesn't mind the noise (it is noisy).
