Motherboard dying

I have had a 2500K on a Biostar TP67XE motherboard for over 8 years now but the PC has started to freeze. The only solution is putting the motherboard laying horizontally. Strange, I know, but I've reseated everything, cleaned it out, checked the cables and the symptom persists.

I'm guessing it's the motherboard, so would this be a decent purchase for around 40 quid.

For roughly the same price second hand? Is the Z77 worth it over the H61?

Or should I look into upgrading my CPU and motherboard? No idea what the latest tech is like, should I wait for something?

I have SSDs, GTX1050 for moderate gaming and 16GB of RAM, so I really just need to look at the CPU and motherboard.

If laying the board flat resolves the problem, it's possible something isn't seated in it's slot or secured corrrectly, where as laying down mavity does the work and helps the problem thing remain seated(intead of sagging outward when it's upright).

Second-hand board would be the cheaper option(if you're certain it needs changing), members market is a good place to start, i imagine you qualify for access if you're not already using it.

What sort of temps is it hitting when it freezes? It does sound like something is not seating correctly when it's vertical.

If going for a new motherboard Z77 would be better than H61 because you will be able to overclock that 2500k. The problem is that you are restricted to whatever you can pick up second hand so are relying on a decent board coming up for sale.

Thanks guys, only problem is I've tried reseating everything to no avail.

Also, I live in Hong Kong, so no can do with the MM. Temps are under 60C during moderate usage but sometimes it will freeze on startup, so I don't think that's the issue. This is all using stock BIOS settings.

I'm leaning to a 2nd hand Z77 board...

What speed have you for your RAM at? And what voltage?
