Is buying a new phone off the bay safe?

I'm after a Note 9, which can seemingly be had on ebay for as little as £600 it seems.

I know you get buyer protection through PayPal but is it safe? But are there any pitfalls for say getting the device insured etc?

Read the negative feedback. If there more than a couple of mentions of fakes, grey imports, Chinese imports, used phones passed of as new phones (dead common) then even if they're not for the Note 9 it's more than likely it's a dodgy seller.

Insurance companies can be awkward and normally mention in the small print about items purchased off there.

Depends if you plan on insuring too i guess?

New phones on finance/contract that gets defaulted and the phone barred a few weeks/months later.

If you don't want to get stung don't buy a phone from ebay....

Yeah I'm wanting it insured, is there any way to find out if they're on finance or contract from say imei number before purchasing.

CheckMEND should mention something but it isn't foolproof.

My mate bought an iPhone 4 off that site (some time ago). Wasn't untill he took it to the apple store when it broke 4 months later that he found it was fake. I had one at the time and couldn't tell the difference. I personaly would never buy a phone from there but I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate sellers.
