Hello chaps, I cant belive Im defeated and need to turn to the experts, but I just cant solve this simple problem..

My Silverstone PSU (7yrs old prob) has female connectors at the back and I cant find a replacement 24 pin 'male to male' motherboard cable for sale, I bought one without checking and it was male to female and after literally hours of searching no where is selling one, even my precise search strings come up with male to female, I just dont have the time anymore and this is really beginning to annoy me, am I losing my mind or asking the impossible?

Thanks for any help or link to where I can buy one and sorry for posting this

Hello
What is the model name/number of the psu?
I dont know its at my Nieces =( I knew someone would ask this and arrgh I cant find my post history where i think i once posted it
Its 80 silver somthing. think it was 600w, its all modular except the power cable i think

I have the cable I removed in front of me that i think is faulty, both are male that would fit in the mobo, one end is actually 20+4

the mobo it was powering is a 350m if that help, god im so sorry

The new cable i bought is male to female and the female end fits in neither the mobo or the PSU whereas the other end (male) fits in both

i will post again when i find out the model,

Yep, 80+ Silver must be quite old.
PSUs of that class disappeared long tiem ago, possibly from not being that much cheaper to make than 80+ Golds.

And you should be very careful when using not bundled cables with modular PSUs.
At worst different wiring would burn motherboard etc because of things getting wrong voltage.
Best would be checking precise model number and asking Silverstone.
But model is likely very old.
Can't find any 600W 80+ Silver model from this list:

Wow lol is it really that old? So should we really be investing in another PSU? Her build is about a year old, b350m Ryzen 5. I was told the PSU was still better than a cheap one, it was a budget build, i had this PSU from an older machine, I just didnt know it was so old, its in pristine condition
Oh God this is going to go down well, this build has been a disaster from start to finish, I'm supposed to be the PC expert in the family and im making an absolute hash of things =(

My brother in law is going to ***ing crucify me over this she needs her PC for collage and the cable was supposed to fix things. Holy crap im screwed, ive really messed this up =((

its a ryzen 5 1600
8mb ram
1050 card
350m, im sorry thats not exact, but that's the basics i think.

How much would new or maybe reconditioned PSU be, what would be an appropriate upgrade?

Crikey thinking back.. this PSU is 13 yrs old lmao, wtf was i doing =((
That must be one of the first 80+ Silver PSUs then.

There are no "reconditioned" PSUs in anywhere.
That would need replacing capacitors (especially in cheaper PSUs) and fan.

450W PSU would be good for PC with such mainstream graphics card.
550W would be enough for quite good graphics cards when looking at power efficiency.
But I guess gaming isn't really going to be included in use of that PC.

Bitfenix Formula would be modern design with good capacitors.

Though all cables are fixed.
Myself wouldn't put anything cheaper (or older) in PC which would see lots of use.

Modular cable PSUs cost some more.
This Antec is cheapest PSU with modern design, good capacitors and at least semi-modular cabling.

Honestly? If u are the pc expert and your reputation is on the line? Then i would say get a new psu....
Dont bother trying to find a male to male adaptor

Here is a list of the best psus
From good going to worst

Ye get a 450watt.. maybe 550 if she wanna upgrade to a better graphics card or overclock e.c.t

You both talk a lot of sense thank you for your help, honestly think I would still be searching and going absolutely crazy looking for a male to male 24 pin for the rest of my life lol.
Yeps I have an Antec for my gaming PC, cant complain at all, thanks very much for the links and links to the top list, thats looks a very cool site cheers.

Ahh good old overlockers, never let me down ;)

I'm confused, has the PSU ever worked? Or are you replacing one in your nieces PC?
Aye yes, but if you touch the MB cable is cuts out, you just have to pull the cable into a certain position and it works, but then it just cuts out again till you move the cable. I used a cable tie, but its not longer working to tug the cables.

This is why i think its the cable, i might take a screw driver to the little pins and widen them up a bit idk, I cant afford £60 for a new PSU but i cant afford to kill her PC either.

Ive been putting off sending my sister an email explaining whats happened lmao im such a coward =(

Any of the known/well-known brands are fine for a PSU. Just don't pick up one of those cheapo unbranded/unknown branded ones. You'll notice these as they're significantly cheaper than everything else in the range. It doesn't look like she's running anything too power hungry either, so ~500W should probably be enough - double check the power reqs for the GPU and CPU though.

Yes, good advice. She wont be O C or heavy gaming, I think a 450w would suffice.
