Yes the title sucked I am not use to doing something like this, In the thread
https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...d-present-that-work-at-overclockers.18835456/

A Discussion came about after hearing about what we go through to help out with buying a few PC parts for Paola, I checked with Bailey that it was okay and the person who suggested it has things going on so I thought probably best I do this myself.

Summary, Paola has been fighting illness for 21 years it is incurable and because of the disabilities I am her primary carer and 99% of our existence is at home, computers and technology became our window onto the world, I won't go into details for anyone who has not read the thread its all available on that.

I want to make it clear in no way did I come to OCuk to get money and if no one donates that is fine this is just being put out there because people asked.

My Wife's PC the same as my own it has been on a slow budgeted upgrade path for many years, as it stands it is an intel 4690 8GB Ram 1070 graphics card a 120gb SSD OS drive and 2 mechanical 2 TB drives, this system is hooked into a 55" 4k tv and the oculus rift.

We don't have a lounge anymore it got turned into her bedroom, the reason for the 55" is from where she sits in her medical Riser Recliner at the back of the room it is equivalent to a 28" monitor, Rift only gets used when she is having a good day.

Now the plan was half way through November I had budgeted a certain amount for my birthday for a new monitor, (the AoC 32") and anything left over was going to buy a Samsung 500gb evo SSD to replace her ageing mechanical drives (500GB may not seem a lot but she only puts 5-7 games on her system at once).

Then save up and take her old 8GB with 16GB.

Do not want to tempt fate but both computers are in okay condition and the SSD will be the big boost to her performance, after those two items money will slowly be put away over the next year to do a rebuild and upgrade of both.

The SSD is £90 and someone already donated £25 so £65 at most is left on that and I know 16gb is £110.

So the most we are trying to raise is £175 and that would let me do the next two scheduled upgrades.

But like I said if no one donates this is just out there because people asked.

Someone mentioned in Paypal send it as a gift for friends and family so they do not take a cut.

If anyone does want to my trust is setup and I will forward my paypal email.

This was a lot longer than I expected told you I was not very good at this.

Thank you for reading and thank you to anyone who does help on this crazier things have happened.

More help than I imagined has been offered we are keeping the thread going because it has turned into an interesting discussion thread but no more help is needed other than just chatting and discussing things.

what about your gofundme for the planned boat purchase - i know you had to abandon that due to your wifes health deteriorating but could you not just rework/reword that and save any flaff with paypal?

I'm gonna be brutally honest here and say that getting people to donate parts will be a lot easier than getting them to part with their money. I'm sure most of the folks here have loads of unused bits that are just lying around, or would be willing to part with for a nice price. Obviously money is king but having built not one, but two gaming PCs for some of our FG members, I know first hand how hard it can be to get people to part with their wedge.

I only suggest this to help you widen the net. Unfortunately I am not one of those people however if you get a Gofundme set up I will gladly chip in a few bob.

Good luck to you both, wishing you all the best :)

175 quid?

One of the "rich bitcoin dudes" here will probably just give you that if you ask.

I don't want to do anything official this was just because people suggested it, sadly my experience with Gofundme ended badly, seems someone thought it was a con and contacted the Department of Work and Pension, they came to our house and audited us, oh it was all fine and above board but caused a lot of stress for myself and wife.

Like I said this was all never the intent it was just people asked.

I read your other thread above and really felt for you both and the struggles you have been through.
Plus you played EQ :)

Have you considered a JustGiving page?

Edit: Ok, having read your post #6 in this thread, I can see why you wouldnt want to do that.

£10 on its way via paypal if you send me your details via Trust.

People actually do that? I mean ask people they don't know, that would feel weird "hey I just met you can you give me £175" lol.

I do not have the balls to do something crazy like that.

I’ll do it.

@crinkleshoes you feeling generous?

(I love making men part with their money, I’d make such a good woman)

To be honest if it's only £175 it's hardly worth it. I was looking to put £100 in from your previous thread. Can't we cast the net slightly wider and set our sights on something a bit more and say aim for a slightly better build for you and your wife?

@Calranthe Can you link me to the aoc 32" @ Overclockers store?

Is it this one?

If it is I would like to buy you that to be picked up from ocuk when you visit them.

@Bailey can we organise this if I call you guys?

I’ve got the following that I’ll likely never get around to selling, you can pick and choose or have it all, I’m not willing to pay the cost of delivery though as it’ll come to a fair whack:

ASUS x99 Deluxe motherboard
i7 5820k clocks to 4.5-4.6ghz (you can also have the EK Predator 360 cooler if it will fit the case you want to use)
Samsung 950 Pro 500GB M.2 SSD
Thermaltake Core X9 (huge case and will be courier only)

I’ve just sold the memory or you could have had that as well, sorry.

I’ve got a spare 512GB SSD you can have. It’s not seen a massive amount of use as it was sat in a spare machine doing nothing.

You’re not far away either, so happy to drop it off for you.

Alternatively if you’d prefer to buy new for warranty purposes, I’m happy to donate towards the cost if you trust me your PayPal address.

If you've spent £50k over the last 15 years on computer parts I'd question your use of disposable income. Your current spec is fine you don't need to upgrade it.

I have not upgraded in years and I have not ask anyone to help for free.

If the computer works then what is the point in asking for free stuff.

Sell the oculus rift job done.

Yes that was the one only if you are really sure.

It feels like you'd have more context if you read the original thread.

21 years ago I gave up work at 26 to look after her, our only income was pip/disability and what is now the ESA, but being confined to the house, it is amazing how a little goes a long way, no smoking, no sweets, no car, 0 rent/mortgage, priority listed seven trent meaning we pay 3.45 per month for water, council tax 100% subsidy.

Now imagine being stuck in the house 24/7 for 20+ years and for me I get to go out 10-20 mins max because we do not have close family, I cook, clean, laundry everything.

Now what do you do for entertainment (a lot of people say wow a 20 year holiday) but when you can not actually leave the house (summer sun burns her skin dangerously and she is subject to high percentages of secondary cancer so summer is out, medication means that even if she sits next to a radiator she is still cold so winter is out too, that is all beyond the other issues) so it becomes a prison.

When she first got ill she loved crafting, everything from clay to wood to painting and stitching, as the months and years went by 90% of that was removed due to muscle damage, TV thats okay, books thats okay but 20 years?

I have made it my life's work to make sure she has things to do, things most of us would class as a luxury become a necessity computers and technology become a window on the world, We were one of the first to have BT home highway(one of the first 10 in stoke on trent), the dual ISDN system before DSL/ADSL, in 2001 I bought a 32" monitor wall (that thing was heavy) to replace our TV and hook in a digital card, I kept two main games pc's, and 1 bedroom PC, I got into Tablets and gaming phones as soon as they came out.

At 3am in the morning when as is the norm the pain is so bad she can not sleep before youtube before streaming, I had a home network setup so she could access and watch favourite shows or game in bed.

Now before she got ill, she was studying creative writing, her options were following that or her other love archaeology, I was just finishing my Bsc in computer science and had a job offer in the Netherlands (my dream job actually a system admin at a college). We would both prefer to be going down that route.
