Hi all

The missus' birthday is 21st November and im planning to take her to London, We've been loads of times over the 7 years we've been together but I want to make this time different by staying somewhere which will make her go "WOW" and ill get a massive thank you from her ;)

We usually go for Ramada or Ibis but stay away from the centre due to lower rates, Last time was Docklands and the other time was Wembley, I want it to be more central but doesn't need to be bang smack in the centre as we love the tubes :) We don't usually head out to bars or clubs we just like being 'tourists' and most of the time get lost which turns out to be very fun....

Any recommendations would be great please

NIGHTS: 1 (Friday into Saturday)
BUDGET: £120

Cheers

London's got a million hotels, so you'll end up with more suggestions than you know what to do with.

I always use trivago for looking at hotels.

You've got your budget, great, set that and then adjust the other filters (3 stars + / Guest rating: Good +), i find that typically just removes all the not-so-nice ones.

Then either load up the map view and see where you'd like to stay, or pick a particular tourist spot and use the distance from feature.

I also only consider hotels that have 000's/0000's of reviews rather than some strange one that's rated 10/10 with 7 reviews.

Frankly you can't go wrong :)

Hmm, i have no advice but hit those last-minute deal places. You might get really lucky and find a "classy" hotel with a cancellation.

Somewhere wow.... Well you can come to Romford... there's a Travelodge and im pretty sure you would get a Wow on a Friday night but not the right kind of Wow you would hope for... lol

To be honest, i wouldn't have thought you'd get a "wow" type of hotel in central London for £120 on a Friday night.

As mentioned. You're best just playing around on trivago on your date and seeing what's available in the best area.

Crazy Bear hotels are reasonably priced and definitely have a quirky wow factor for anyone who has never been to one, though likely outside the budget.

Reasonably priced? I always thought they were expensive (i.e >£300 and up). Maybe i'm thinking of somewhere else. WIll have to take a look.

That lovely Canadian girl on the Trivago ads looks tasty AF. I'd start there.

Yeah. Definitely start there.

You’ll struggle to get any “wow” for £120 in London.
As a retired Black Cab driver, and life long resident of the Tower Bridge area of London, I’d suggest that you check out Hilton, More London, Tooley St. SE1, Hilton Rotherhithe St. SE16, or The Guoman Tower Hotel, St. Katharine’s Way, E1, you may have to revise your budget up a tad, or they may have some deals, good luck.

We'll usually stay at the Intercontinental@02 when we go down the smoke as it's a really nice hotel (Had a flat in North Greenwich for 6 months so that's why we seem to head straight for that area) but do check what's on at the 02 as sometimes getting the tube can be a nightmare if it's just kicked out.

We usually go for Ramada or Ibis

It won't make her go Wow but I have stayed at the Ibis on Commercial Street next to the Aldgate East tube station. Tower Hill is one tube stop away.

A night at a club like the Carlton or Caledonian will cost you around £150 if you are a member or a member of a club with reciprocal rights.

I've stayed in the Guoman Tower Hotel, it looks a complete ******** from the outside, but inside was quite pleasant.

Yeah, for guaranteed wow you're about 33% of the way there with budget, having said that there are a few places you might get for £250 ish.

For less than that I'd say take a chance on one of lastminutes "mystery" 5 * deals.

Or stretch a little and stay out of the west end maybe? This one has a rooftop bar and is practically brand new, however it's just off Moorgate so bear that in mind.

If linko no worko then search for "Montcalm Royal London House - City Of London"

Yes I've stayed there, it's fine.

Good Luck

I've stayed at Grange St Pauls before for around £120 a night. It was very good for the price to be honest.

The Hilton DoubleTree Westminster is also supposed to be decent, but I haven't stayed there.

Best hotel in London I've stayed at is probably The Langham, but that will blow the budget.

120 notes will not get you a wow factor hotel, it will get you somewhere clean and probably breakfast with it.

Wow factor try shangri la hotel at the shard, will put you back 400 notes though. London plus wow factor does not equal £120 unfortunately

I think might be better off with Airbnb, even then £120 isn’t exactly going to be at “wow” levels. You might find something quirky/interesting though.

In terms of hotels, you’d be looking at something rather ordinary at best. Perhaps a bit better than travel lodge etc.. if booking mid week but not really much more than that.

Bit over your budget at £155 but I booked this for my girlfriend and myself for last Valentines.

Was really good, it has a small pool and sauna which was really nice and relaxing in the evening before we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It was full of couples, as expected on Valentines night. We ended up finishing a bottle of Courvoisier in our room during the night and missed breakfast :D

We stayed in a premier inn near west ham stadiium and the olympic area. There was a tube station just outside our hotel which meant we could just get on and travel whereever within a short space of time.

The Hoxton in shoreditch is around budget, has a bit more of a vibe to it than your average travelodge/premier inn/ibis et al. There’s also it’s sister hotel in Holborn.
