Now I know... This is shady!

I need a new clutch, sum of parts from a reputable seller is £916
FB marketplace, a brand new unused kit comes up for sale. £745, peaks my interest. Various PMs later, I pull out because he's telling me it's £60 to post and I am paying PayPal fees if I insist on having buyers protection- So I walk away now the price is approaching £850 from a goon 400 miles away.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, still for sale and price dropped to £700.
Still nearly £800 all in but that does save me over a ton...

My questions is, with PP am I truly protected? If it turns up obviously not in the 'New' condition he's described will I get a no quibble refund?
Same if it never turns up? No quibble refund?
Parts missing etc? You get the idea.

If you want consumer protection and customer service, don't buy from Facebook.

Totally this - if you really want it and its that much cheaper go see it in person and pay cash - otherwise your totally at the seller's mercy. Not sure you'll actually get any buyer protection from PayPal either.

I'm all for grabbing a bargain (sometimes going to questionable lengths), but for the clutch in my car I wouldn't be happy to buy from 'a goon 400 miles away' for a 12.5% saving....

Agreed. I bought a freezer for £50, made sure it was local and checked the guy out beforehand. There's no way in hell I'd part with any decent sum of money on there

You only have to look at the Vagscam facebook page for the scams you get through Facebook.

We advise people in our VW groups don't buy on facebook unless it's a proper online store and with a credit card. Avoid Paypal gifts and bank transfers.

In all honesty, fork out for the proper kit from a reputable seller. I'd not want to be spending £800 for a part with no warranty or come back if it's faulty.

What's the car? It would be a good option to check some decent online specialists and you'll get discounts through all the time via email.

Only buy on FB if you are willing to collect in person and pay in cash. Same if you sell. Same applies to Gumtree.

I'd only ever buy something over FB if it was a cash on collection deal, I'm a member of a couple of local buy/sell/freebie groups and have picked up some nice bits of furniture for free or cheap, but I'd never use it for 'shopping' as such.

It's gold for getting rid of stuff also, I had a garage workbench I wanted rid of, someone was round within about an hour.

I know Eurocarparts have weekly offers on things, sometimes as much as 45% off. They've got 35% off as a winter special at the moment.

TPS, not sure they have any offers but are often highly recommended, i found them to be quite expensive though. If you're thinking of Facebook chek out the vagscams page, any known scammers are posted there.

Might be worth checking Awesome GTI as well, they are a VAG specialist.
