What watch do you wear?

I had read that having to wind it every time could cause extra wear and tear. Guessing that as long as you're not smashing it round with no sympathy then you're fine? :)
 
I've always used a winder with no issues
. Allows me to keep multiple watches ready to go

Currently have a Wolf roadster triple and it's superb

Any movement of the watch causes an element of wear and tear, that's a fact. From what I have read it doesn't make too much difference whether you use a watch winder or whether you wind as needed... it is more for convenience sake than anything else.

I'd stick with this also. Watch winders make sense in terms of minimising wear if you don't have a quick set date function on an auto due to the wear caused by cycling through all the dates necessary to get to 'today's' date. For all other instances (bar some perpetual calendars and probably some other ludicrously awesome complications), I'd stick with hand winding.
 
maybe the novelty would wear off ... are Nixon form/£200 over function ? not sure if hands are luminous.

it's interesting to explore different hand styles (not considering pun)
 
Whatever floats you boat. But I wouldn't call that kitsch, just gimmicky tat. It's not even as if it's a particularly readable handset.

Want kitsch (and multiply your budget hugely!) go for one of the Mickey Mouse Datejusts.

It's basically mickey mouses hands on an otherwise plain and uninspiring watch, its about as far away from horological and sartorial elegance as you can get. Looks absolutely ridiculous.
 
Think I may have to put the breaks on my watch purchasing for a couple of months now that I have this piece.

This is a 1966 Universal Geneve Polerouter Super. Original dial, crown, hands and date wheel. The dial is blue has a sunburst effect, unfortunately I haven't managed to capture this in the photos but it looks great when it catches the light. The edges of the case a still razor sharp so this can't have been worn much in its 52 years. Runs perfectly only losing 2 seconds per day and its all powered by the cal 1-69 microtor movement. Couldn't be happier with this purchase and it'll be staying with me for a long time.

So, it's my 30th at the end of November and I've never had a luxury watch and quite fancy one. Seems a good present to myself. I have a bonus coming in the new year which is essentially free money. I have, at the most, £4000 to spend. Realistically, I'd rather not spend that. The IWC would be amazing, but I think I should only really buy it if I know I really want it and I don't think I'm there. After thinking about it today, I think I'd like to keep it under £2000, with £2500 being the very max.

I want to avoid Rolex and Tag at all costs. I prefer the classic dress style watches, albeit with the face to have something a bit more going on.

I'm happy to go preowned, or new. I'm very much out of my depth.
