Octy vRS 18" Vs 19" Wheels

I have the VRS 245 on 19s with the factory P Zeros. Couple of points -

The diff is absolutely excellent and makes the 245 well worth considering vs. the standard.

My last car was a BMW F30 328 msport on 19s. That was noticeably harsher than the VRS. To the point I wouldn't ever recommend one without adaptive suspension (the 18s are fine having driven both)

My dad has an M240i on 18s. He finds the ride horrific and I went out in it and it was really firm and skittish. Not comfortable. It is far harder than the VRS on 19s for sure.

It probably depends on what you're coming from and how sensitive you are to it but I do 50 miles a day and find it really pretty comfortable. The seats are superb too.

Yes the lumbar goes up and down which is good on long journeys. Also they are fully electric with memory which is handy

probably depends where you live as well ? and the state of the roads -
regularly use the A10 east of Littleport ... this is a killer road - in all senses.

Can only really echo what everyone else is saying about larger tyres. My car (not an Octavia admittedly) came with 19" wheels and 235/40 R19 tyres. I found it way too harsh even for motorway cruising so I swapped them for 17" wheels and 215/50 R17 tyres. Much more comfortable, less road noise and much cheaper tyres as an added bonus.

It really must be down to the car and your own sensitivity to it.

I owned a mondeo on 17s in between the BMW and the VRS and the VRS was clearly harsher but not 'omg' by any stretch.

The F30 on 19s is bloody awful. Road noise is bad for a premium car anyway but man. Not getting another of those!

obviously the car will have an effect. but even the best car with the largest possible alloys will be worse than the same car with smaller alloys.

sports suspension is another. same car but with sports suspension you are just asking for a much bumpier ride. it all plays a part but if you are after comfort going for smaller alloys is a cheap and wise move.

I'm already used to the "stiffer" suspension on the Octy - I know, I know, we aren't talking "super sporty suspension" here, but it's certainly firmer than your "average car".
My worry was that adding 19" wheels would just make things that little more bumpy.
Anyway, as I'm only travelling 15 miles to see a car with the 19" wheels on as opposed to the 500 mile round journey I was considering, it's a no-brainer. I'll make sure I get a good run out in it first.

I have found the main cause of road noise etc with my 18" alloys is they are XL (extra load) tyres - I bought a set of 16" steels with tyres on to put winter tyres on and the ride was good - Put winter tyres on 16's and it's as noisy as the 18" tyres (XL is the spec)- all my alloys have dents in them - I would never have low profile wheels again.
