Some time within the next 12 months I will have the ability to redo all the house computers, it will be the last time an external cash flow comes in and due to benefit restrictions being in place, wife is disabled and I am her primary carer this money can not be saved or used to buy assets, (death in the family) some will be used up renovating the back yard making it more disabled friendly and provide storage for dialysis equipment, triple glazing will be installed, loft turned into an extra room and a solar system installed, we know the rough amount that will arrive and a certain amount will be put aside to completely redo the tech side of things.

(all older items will be offered up to those that need them on OCuk)

Now before I begin a question.

If you buy the parts and build a system with the near top tier discounting all the snazzy and "gamer" stuff how many years would you estimate at 4k (screen resolution) it to reasonably play new titles.

2 computers.
Wife's needs to be small form factor quiet and will be running a rift+4k 55" TV.

My pc
Full size, quiet 4k + Vive Pro.

Total budget (if we have all the Math correct between 6-10K), any spare can go on OCuk gift vouchers.

Unfortunately we can only save a maximum of 6500 between us before it affects benefits and while I have budgeted many things like paying a certain amount into gas and electric, redoing the kitchen appliances and all the disabled items possible, it will all have to be spent within a month, I am the sole beneficiary and the executor of the will, I can get away with all the house improvements and all the rest because of Paola's disabilities (triple glazing due to her having trouble sleeping at night, renovating back yard to allow her access and a safe place to be, solar to help with the high costs of electrical usage due to heating and dialysis equipment), its all within reasonable usage.

After that point I have budgeted about 1.5-2k per year on upgrades or save up until the systems age and redo.

60fps over 4k and highest settings for the Rift

wouldn't need to upgrade CPU for 4 years easily and GPU should last 2 gens easily !!!

That looks like a solid system and given the amount we can save per year to budget from then on it should just be a case of either every 4 years saving it up or part upgrading.

thank you.

Am I right in thinking that basically the same system for mine as well although case and board may be different.

Yes pretty much. If you are wanting a full size build then you would want an ATX size motherboard and a mid/full tower ATX case. Depending on the case you choose you might be able to swap out the cooler for the 360mm version as you can never have enough cooling for Intel 'K' cpu's.

Another option would be to go with a Ryzen R7 2700/X build. At 4K the cpu is less important so the fps gap between AMD and Intel is a lot smaller.

The 9900k does run hot, I've got the silent loop 360mm snd and managed to hit 65c on it while gaming. Very pleased with my new space heater though.
