I have a buyer for my 6700k mobo combo.

So I’m after a new Chip, Mobo and 16GB DDR 4

I’m literally torn between 2700x and 9700k or even an 8700k

Main usage will be gaming.

Tbh the 6700k was doing fine and I don’t really need to upgrade but I’ve sold it now..

So I need a new mobo combo fast.

Thoughts?

I've seen a few comments that say the 9700k beats its big brother for gaming but I think it depends what resolution your playing at, anything above 1080p and you're more gpu bound.

Whats your budget, res and gpu?

Budget is a round £650 (mobo chip and Ram)

I have a 1080ti and I game at 3440 x 1440p Ultrawide :)

I'm starting to think I should have just kept my 6700K...

1440p - anything you fancy.
Why ever you buy now is going to tank in value in the next 6-9 months.

Assuming you are not looking for 144Hz/FPS I'd be buying the least expensive option that will do what is needed.

Slightly faster then 8700knfor gamings and apps, 8 cores over 6 helps along with the speed , even though doesn't have hyper threading , which only adds about 30% extra performance.

Gigabyte matx 10+1 phase set up, better the. The Strix but doesn't cost the price of the Gene !

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £539.44 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Also doesn't need a river to cool it

Can you link me to that cooler mate...oops read it wrong !

Yeah but I sold my 6700k why there was still value in it...so I’ll probs do the same depending on what comes out.

Yes, you've got good money for your kit now due to Intel shortages. However if you pay £400 for and 8700K, that's £120 more than it was in June. Anything you buy now will tank in value once the stock levels get back to normal, not to mention the imminent threat of Zen2 further reducing the value. Consider the possibility an R5 3600 is as fast but will be ~£150-170 new, with a cooler and warranty, that leaves the 8700K looking over priced second hand at £150.

Just some food for thought. :)

Least you'll be covered for 6+ years, and value of 4 core i7 has dropped and risen due to new chips costing a bomb and shortage !

What's your case againg sorry ?

Zen 2 hopefully will be good, but guessing like Zen1 , it'll take the refresh to polish everything up .
Even if getting core speed up, ram speed/IMC and IF is the problem area

I slapped in an Eisbaer 360 (not the LT) in there. But did have Silent wing 3 fans for static pressure. LT is 25mm thick so would allow GPU space. Had fitted 285mm gtx 1070ti Windforce in there .believe Eisbaer 360 is on deal ?
Dark rock 4 Pro might still be on deal for £65 as well.
