Hey all,

I'm looking to build a PC for Christmas. I need to be able to play games, stream and run Discord at the same time.

I've heard so many conflicting reports on AMD vs Intel. i5 vs i7. 1050ti vs 1060 (3gb) vs 1060 (6gb) and I'm starting to not want to move away from the PS4 at this point haha.

I have all my peripherals/monitors etc. I just need the box. What can I get that will comfortably run OBS, Fortnite and Discord all at once? Also, if its important, I'll be using an audio jack headset and a seperate, USB microphone.

Thanks!

I prefer Radeon for their qualities. This RX 580 8GB is quite cheap now and is the one to get. RX 580 is massively faster than GTX 1050 Ti, too.

Awesome, and benchmarking says the same when I looked! Quite excited by this. I already have a case, so I could splurge a little more on the insides.

Would you recommend any type of cooling for something like this? I'll be playing approx 4-8 hours per day.

Well, the processor has its cooler coming in the box, so no worries for the beginning. If something happens and you are not satisfied with the temps, you can buy an additional aftermarket cooler.

Again, sounds perfect. Perfectly in budget, and more powerful than I thought I would be able to achieve.

With this build, how scalable is it in the long run? Will I need a new mobo any time soon? And what options for graphics cards updates?

This is the case I will be picking up from a friend if this matters? NZXT Phantom USB 3.0 Big Tower Chassis - White

Wow, that is a very good looking case
I think there will be no need for a new mobo soon. Look, with technology, something new can happen next year and make you wanting it, but what you could get today, is still very good.
You can upgrade the graphics card in the future with a more expensive one or higher performance, if you wish. No problems.

Why did you choose the following graphics card over something like the 1050ti or 1060?

one of the rare times i'm actually going to agree with @4K8KW10

and another time lol...what's the world coming to!
yes, the stock AMD cooler is pretty decent and will allow for a small overclock too.
i wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to swap it out so soon

as you already have an ATX sized case and that's outside of the budget, then this would be my recommendation:
i would spend that little more to get a quality x370/470 board rather than a b350/450 board due to the better quality VRM - which is very important when running with 8-core processors
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £796.55 (includes shipping: £11.70)

Wow, first day on the forums and I'm already bringing people together haha!

So this is <£800 budget and seems perfect. Better mobo, plenty of RAM, damn good video card, all the HDs I need.

Is there anything else within another £50 that could really set this off or vastly improve? Because if not, when I get the last £300 I need I'll just be ordering this.

not really. i think it's the best blend of price-performance. you'd need a lot more than £50 to jump to the next performance level

i guess you can get faster ram for the extra £40. but honestly, the minor fps increase isn't worth the extra outlay.
the next thing would be a better GPU (ie 1070/vega 56) but that will need >£100, and a larger PSU (extra £30) - therefore, out of budget...

In that case I'll stick with this for now, and if I come into enough money in the next few weeks are you okay with me reaching out to ask for recommendations?

But honestly, I'm not a pro, I'm not a high end gamer, I'm coming from PS4. So all of this should be more than enough to run the game at good settings while also streaming and having a browser open playing music, right?

Just realised, I still need a Windows license... I'm coming from Ubuntu on my personal machine haha. I can pull a Win10 license off an old Win10 laptop right?

unfortunately, i don't think you can (happy to be corrected if others know better)
an official licence will cost £100-ish, but there are places where you can get them for cheaper... *wink wink*

I'll see what I can work out.

Thank you so much for all your help and guidance here. Much appreciated! Just need the last few quid now! :)
