Aorus 2080ti Crash...

Hi all,

I put the Xtreme Aurus 2080ti in my machine yesterday from a 980ti msi g6.

All was well at first, turned all rgb off, did a BIOS update that was posted in the main thread.

I done some initial overclocks but they caused crash's.

I have gradually reduce those OC further and further until now im at default. Just ran Final Fantasy XV Bench @4k and it crashsed about 30seconds in.

When I say crash, I loose the screen and it says no input signal on my TV, the PC and fans etc are still on - the PC does not reboot I have to hold power button to force restart.

Spec is in sig, all 3 years old (I only swapped out my i5 6600k to a i7 6700k two weeks ago mind but that has caused no issues in those two weeks)

Drivers/Windows all up to date.

Thanks,
Sean

I remember the 1080ti Aorus Extreme cards could be faulty as well. The 1080ti's problem was at stock they would run around 2000mhz out of the box and some of the chips just weren't stable there. Try backing the clocks down even lower and see how you get on. If it stabilizes then send it back as the chip is not up to the job.

Same with the 1080 xtreme cards, i had one and it's built in overclock just never worked without a crash :(

That does not sound good. It is fully stock at the minute, boosting to 1935. I will see if I get another crash before reducing clocks a little.

**Edit its at around 1900 now the temps gone up **

Is there any chance it could be PSU? I doubt it as I think the 980ti would have pulled about the same power?

You sure it’s stock? Your boos clock is almost as much as my OC clock...

I only have Afterburner Beta installed, I have reset it on there its all stock as far as I can see.

Do you have the exact same card? I seen others on the main thread saying there was boosting to low 1900 out of the box im sure.

Yea those clocks look about right judging by past cards. The 1080ti version would boost to 2000mhz at stock. There is no reviews of this card so can't say for sure but it is Gigabyte's fastest air cooled card which they like to push the limits on.

Yeah, maybe I shouldnt try and push any further then until more info is available. Ill fire up a game now at stock see what happens.

So I loaded up FFXV again, totally stock. Crashed after 10mins. Will try another game but I never had a crash ever with my 980ti.

I suppose I should email OCUK or Gigabyte right? Rather annoying to say the least.

OCUK should be your first port of call. They will deal with the whole process and will be way quicker than Gigabyte. Always retailer first if possible.

Thanks, I shall drop them an email. Just a shame they don't have anymore in haha.

The 2080ti will use much more power than a 980ti, I don't think a 650w PSU is enough. The FE edition uses around 280w stock and an Aorus xtreme overclocked will use loads more

Unless it’s a high-end and very good quality PSU then 650W tend to not cut it on RTX 2080 and above, especially with an OC.

I have taken the OC of the CPU this morning and played around 1 hour of FFXV without a crash, so everything at stock seems to be ok so perhaps it is the PSU after all.

I am applying an OC to GPU only now see what happens but looks like a may need a beefier cpu.

Thing is I bought one of the plug in things that displays power draw - Was about 350w when gaming with 980ti and cpu OC so surely 2080ti is not that hungry? not 200w more anyway

Thanks.

I think this is your card?

https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N208TAORUS-X-11GC#sp

FWIW Gigabyte recommend a minimum of 750W PSU, so would appear your PSU doesn't quite have the power output, especially as you're trying to push it.

Thanks, im sure they massively exaggerate to be on the safe side though.

I OC'd the GPU only just and got a CTD after 30mins. What I don't want to happen is me buy a new PSU and then still have crashes though, you think I could send the PSU back if that was the case?

Thanks for all your help.

You have 7 days to try it and be able to return it for a refund from ocuk
