ive been wanting to water cool my system for a while but dont really know where to start and how much it would cost. ive got a fractal r6 and i think im ready to let my internal bd drive go. I was thinking of a radiator for the top with the bd drive out and I want to use soft tubing with it being my first time watercooling. ive seen tons of stuff selling in the mm forums but not sure with fittings etc i do want to have see through cpu and gpu blocks and intend to get the flex vrc vertical bracket at some point too. has anyone got any tips for me ty.

You could do it for well cheaper than 500. Unless you're planning a crazy build.

I done my hardline build way less than that.
nothing crazy was thinking one rad for now no cpu and vrm block but just cpu, a block for my 1070 a pump res combo maybe a drain switch thing and down the line a 240 rad for the front of my pc to fill in the space since ill only have a res there. soft tubing so i dont need to invest in hard line and end up buying more from failed bends or have to buy 90 degree fittings

£500 is a good starting point if its your first loop & your buying new.

Mine came in a over £500 but it's been rebuilt a couple of times now & most parts have been reused.

CPU block £60
GPU block/plate £140
Pump/res £120
Tubing £15
Fittings £100
Fluid £15
240mm rad £50
280mm rad £60
Fans £50

As you can see, it soon mounts up.

i could shave off £50 i have 2 packs of corsair af and sp fans and prob some off another case too like i said one rad is fine for me at the moment. the fittings is that because of hardline? i thought id only need 8 for now untill i add another rad

Just be careful on the radiator thickness with the R6. Fractal list what will fit, but sometimes it is a very tight fit.
I had an R5 before my Phanteks Enthoo Primo, and the 280mm radiator in the front was a very tight fit. A thin 280mm radiator fitted up top, but I had to move the memory spreaders to get it to fit.

you dont realise but fittings are quite expensive and you need 2 for each part. also need to grab some angled fittings aswell just incase. atleast 5 quid each and i saw 4 parts higher up in the thread so thats 8x5 = 40 minimum. then you have the angled fittings and tubing lets say 30 quid for angled fittings and then 5 or maybe 15 for tubing you might want more as its your first time. also angled fittings are possibly the weakest point in a loop, ive read lots of posts of them leaking when they are slightly pressed, i had one actually squirt when i touched it, but i had a few spares as it was my first time.

One thing to remember is that a good pump/res, radiator and cpu block will last you for many years. I've got DDC pumps that are at least five years old and a heatercore radiator I've had for at least a decade. So unlike your motherboard, gpu, ram, etc. water-cooling parts will last thru many builds.

Just picked up first custom loop. Managed to get around 100 eur off in well known manufacturers black Friday sale

I did my loop a couple of Black Fridays ago (probably the same well known manufacturer!). Still cost me just over £400 at the time. Don't regret it though. Great fun and looks much better than the AIO cooler I had before.

Also I used a couple of Barrow fitting in my loop which cost much less than the likes of EK or Alphacool so you could save some money there.

However the EK stuff just looks and feels better quality.
