Diluting down milk

Hi

Will diluting down standard supermarket whole milk with tap water make it go off faster? Lets assume a 1:1 volumetric ratio. If so, would deionised water improve matters?

Probably not. Boil the water and cool it if you want to reduce the risk.

Deionised, yeah, but there's no need. The milk itself will only be pasteurised so that's all you should need to do to the water. Probably fine straight from the tap if you run it for a bit.
 
I would imagine this would depend upon your personal taste/requirements.

If you are using it to whiten tea or coffee, the more dilute the milk is the less white the beverage will become for the same amount of fluid and will therefore require more. If you are just drinking the milk raw, so to speak, then it will affect the taste.
 
Why would you dilute milk in the first place?

I have decided to to reduce my calorific intake via substituting the milk which I use to blend with my meal replacement and protein shakes with a milk/water blend. I tried just using water with no milk but found the trade-off in terms of taste unacceptable. A 50:50 mix of water to milk seems to give a good compromise between calories and taste and to make life easier I was thinking of 'batch' diluting down 2 litres of milk at a time. I wanted to make sure this process would not make the milk go bad faster however thus my original post. How on earth there can be so many deleted post in this thread is boggling!

Do you not have access to a tap which provides clean drinking water?

Surely you take the meal replacement, put into your chosen receptacle for mixing, go to fridge, add milk, walk to tap, add water?
 
What about 2% milk? Soya milk? Oat milk? Even that long life stuff? Diluting milk is absolutely awful, I speak from experience.

I see where you are going with this but diluting whole milk just seems odd.

Why not go to semi skimmed or skimmed?

If you are concerned about how long it will keep, maybe even powdered milk.

Even lower in calories is unsweetened almond milk and other nut milk varieties.

I personally cannot stand mixing my protein shake with water. I don't mind milk but since i go through 3 shakes a day and buy bulk - i tend to get sick of flavours really quickly. I got around this by mixing it with black coffee after it cools a bit (it will curdle when its too hot). Mix it with a spoon and in a few minutes it will be like a thick sweet late. The hot coffee seems to mix really well with it too with minimal to no lumps. Mocha has been the best flavour to mix so far.

Just buy skimmed milk it's basically the same thing as what you're trying to create, without the need of a forum thread.

What's next adding chopped carrots and cabbage to mayonnaise to make it go further?

It did cross my mind but I really like the idea of batch processing and having the milk pre-diluted in to the correct ratio and ready to go after returning from an intense curl session at the gym.
