Christmas humbug thread

We should only have Christmas every 4 years providing we quality..

Seriously though, I like the idea of Christmas but in reality, it's just become a massive unnecessary expense and consumer fest. Environmentally, the amount of excessive waste we produce and this time of year is ludicrous. It's old fashioned ideology that needs modernising..

A part of Christmas used to be about having a treat.. Something you'd look forward to that you would other wise never have. For example, my parents only used to buy Cola once a year, at Christmas. that was it but what a treat that was. Small things now taken for granted by spoilt kids that don't appreciate what having a treat really is because their parents spoil them all year round for being guilty for being **** parents.

I'd like to know how many trees are felled globally for Christmas each year.

Yes, I realise some are likely grown specifically for the purpose, but the figure would be interesting at least.

After Eights, nuts in shells, Matchmakers, Chocolate Orange...

All things I remember from Christmases when growing up, and now I buy them every year. :) (I still use the old man's nutcracker too, even though he's long gone).

Plastic plastic plastic. Wait, it’s Christmas, let’s buy a load of random junk and eat and drink to excess. I personally love Christmas, but it is funny how the eco lot all go quiet this time of year.

Christmas is basically everyday for most people these days.

If Christmas wakes the non-eco lot up to the consequences of our extravagant ways then that's possibly its best attribute.

I'm not keen on Christmas since family has started ageing and some grandparent inheritance has caused a 'fuss'.
But love the Christmas break. Main thing looking forward to is a 4,day stay at our friends for boardgames, computer games and D&d.
About 8 people go, about 50:50 girl guy ratio.

It really makes. New. Year awesome!

Christmas itself.is a bit of a drag. My and the gfs parents are retired and dont seem to do. Much when we go Down. Maybe they dont value their time as much due to having loads of it. But yeah, Xmas doesnt have the shine it used to

I havent asked for any gifts this year as I have everything I need. Gf will Get a few things though

That sounds amazing.

That sounds amazing.

It really is! We have a group of about 8-15 who all like this stuff. Friend has a big house and him and his gf love hosting. Can play epic games that take 8 hours plus to play. So much better than a tacky night out at club.

I'm grateful and lucky I've found friends and a gf into this stuff

It covers. 28th to 1st jan

Indeed, I hope one day I'll be in a similar position to you.

This all started in a local. 20-40s meetup.com group.
Within that I found a few geeky type friends (Including my Gf).
From there we kind of formed a private group for those of us who shared same interests, broadly geeky stuff and nature stuff.
People started coupling up internal and external to group. Thus grown a bit.

We are a bit spread geographically, but with no kids around we all have a lot of free time.

Totally agree mate

I'd go round and visit a few people and drop off a present here and there but wouldn't bother with a tree or lights or anything.

Oh hang on... Travel around visiting people and dropping off presents... I'll be growing a white bread next!?!?

I've got a white bread. It's just not on my loaf!
