On behalf of a mate.

He's had this issue with his GPU / monitor for a few months now.

See video.

We have switched from 1070ti to on board igpu, he RMA'd he's monitor. We've also tried replacing the cable and yet the issue persists.

A description:

A thing vertical strip from centre of the screen has relocated to the far right.

Any ideas as we are running out?

Next left to try is windows reinstall. We've done everything else that seems logical.

Could it be a defect with the motherboard?

what cable type is he using? i know you have replaced it, but it looks like interference. i suspect DVI, if so could he try another type such as pure hdmi/dp or even VGA to try and rule that out.

strange, may sound odd, but how close is the monitor to the case, also how close are the monitor and pc power cable to the Display port cable.
edit: a straight dp cable? also which one do you know

The monitor is about 2 feet away. I would say a pretty standard distance.

I'll ask him to check the wiring at the back make sure it isn't all twisted.

Bizarre thing is this... with DP he has this issue. Switching from GPU to iGPU and using a DVI cable he still has the problem.

The monitor has been RMA'd already.

Is the monitor an Acer 27" Predator G-sync (XB271HU) by any chance? (it looks a bit like it from the video)

It's a known issue with that monitor. I have the same issue rear it's head from time to time. The only fix is a firmware update from Acer which means sending it to them. However a quick switch off and on with the power button generally sorts it.

Yes it is.

But two monitors in a row? We RMA'd one.

See link above from tommybhoy. Even with the latest firmware it can still happen. The "official" fix is to turn it off then back on. It seems to do the trick with mine when it happens

I get this with a Dell S2716DG. Completely rubbish to be honest that such an issue comes with the old "turn it off and back on" instruction and telling users it might still happen with an update - the product is faulty really. I've actually kept mine for now which I suspect others are doing too. Monitors are the one thing I don't upgrade until they fail - imagine selling them to someone and telling them to switch it off and back on again if a "fault" occurs. Resale value is pretty low IMO with this.
Mine is one of the later Dell units - Rev 09 I think

Indeed it is a bit of a lame fix lol. I believe it's more to do with Nvidia's g-sync module, rather than the monitor/panel itself

Seems so, but is still part of the product regardless of the supplier. Poor showing for NV though if that's the case. You would think the monitor manufacturers would have picked it up during a testing cycle and then rejected the faulty component.
Got mine for a low price during the summer and it makes me wonder if that was the reason for the price - hoping customers just put up with them. I see the price is nearly £200 more now (I paid £449 I think).
Managed to go a week or so a while back without it occurring.
It's kind of Funny A F really though, "turn it off and back on again" - duhhhhhh :D. Maybe the next model will come with a built in rubber hammer too so you can hit it if off and on doesn't work.

I just bought a XB271HU recently and have seen this happen twice; a restart fixed it both times.

Disappointing, although I have until January 31 to do a no questions return for money back. I paid £380 for the screen so really don't want to return it as I'll never get the same spec for that price.

@opethdisciple how often does your mate get this issue, is it constant?

I believe so yes. As he bought the monitor back in August and was still trying to troubleshoot the issue.
