dad needs it for email, browsing, word, excel etc.

No games so not to worry there. He already has monitor, case, keyboard and I’ll just use his SATA drive with windows already on it.

Something intel.

Motherboard
Ram
CPU with cooler

His power supply will be fine too.

Thanks

£200-£300 something like that - money isn’t an issue for him but I don’t want to spec stuff he simply doesn’t need - don’t want to be upgrading him again in a few years though either

Get a used Dell Optiplex 9020 or similar, small form factor. Easy to find with 4th gen i5, ssd and 8gb ram for £200.

That’s a good idea - not worth just getting a bundle from here though?

You will probably get a lot more for your money buying used. The optiplex recommendation comes from me buying one for work. Fantastic little machine and cheaper than I could have built.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £247.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

You are welcome :)

what case? i know you said coolermaster, but could be anything.

the above APU is better than an opitplex unless you find a 1151 i7 perhaps i5 depending on model.

to echo the above, i have chose a board thats not in stock, so more of a guide price thing, same ram, but i went with the faster version APU.

Dell Optiplex 3020 i5 4570, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 10 etc. £129, put in an SSD and you are all done. Complete waste of money buying new for the use case.
