I've got an aging computer hooked up to my TV (running an i5 750k!). I think the GPU has finally died and it seems like a good time for a new build.

I'll use this in the living room, so am after something small (ideally ITX or a small MATX). It'll mostly be used for Netflix etc, but also for some gaming at 1080p, but I don't feel the need for it to run stuff on ultra.

What's the best I can do for £500? Any suggested changes to the below? I've already got a Seasonic G550 PSU so don't need a new one of those.

Thanks!!

looks good, i have put an ryzen apu in to the mix just for an idea, can always add a dedicated gpu if the onboard doesnt suit and while its not a large drive, i went for a single fast m.2 solution and adding 16gb its tipped just over budget.

Thanks - I was wondering about the Ryzen with Vega graphics, but a couple of benchmarks show that it's got less power than my old 7850. Does that sound right? If so, the Ryzen is probably not the way to go for me.

Have you looked at the Silverstone Milo cases?

The GTX 1050 is going to be significantly faster than the Ryzen APU, so go for the GPU. That said, I think you should spring the extra £30 for the GTX 1050 Ti.

Looks like a lovely case - would it fit a 1050 Ti?

to be fair you didnt list your system other than the processor and gaming on lower than ultra could be anything so in that case no the APU graphics part is not as strong, but the processor is better than your old one and better than the coffee lake i3 you listed as the 2400 is a 4c8t with overclocking ability should that be a factor where as the i3 is a locked 4c/4t, so while you wont have a strong graphics chip from the get go, you will have a better processor still, then if you sell you current system you could add in a 1050ti.

i have a ryzen 1200 and its like for like with the i3 8100(low end) apart from i can overclock which is mated to an rx 570 and take it from me its better to have a good processor first as i was running a gt 710 before i turned to more gaming needs and so im already looking at the 1400/1600 or 2600 granted this computer is in my office and is for everything including demanding games.

Sorry if I sounded confrontational, that wasn't my intention and thank you for your help!

Just to clarify, were you using the APU for games at all? It's very tempting to start with the 2400g to keep costs down then add a GPU if I feel I need one

i didnt think that at all, i was just generally pointing out a fact thats all.

i dont have an APU, the ryzen 1200 is basically the slower 2200g APU just without graphics, the APU systems are capable of some light gaming, but as i stated, i only mentioned it as the cpu part will be better/longer lasting than the i3 probably mostly due to the extra threads and the whole APU will cover what you require from it no problem, just not heavy gaming first time round till you get a dedicated gpu... it all depends on what games you will likely play when it comes to it?

this is technically what you would look at if you used the 1400 + 1050ti, but using a milo case as someone suggested, but a psu type you would need for it

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £566.55 (includes shipping: £11.70)

the board and the psu are out of stock, but its just an idea.

the is with the case you suggested enabling the use of your psu with the rest of the above in the mix

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £510.16 (includes shipping: £17.22)

and this is how the total build would cost(depending on end result for storage) and look if you went the APU route adding in the case and power supply(comes with atx bracket so ideal for bigger cases too) and then adding the 1050

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £614.55 (includes shipping: £11.70)

if you take the 1050 out that build leaving that particular storage drive in then the price is £485.56
