looks like RTX "on" just got a nice boost in BF5

I'm sure in the future it will be an interesting feature to have in games once affordable gpu's get to grips with delivering it with decent performance. I don't think it would be that helpful in a competitive game like bf5 though.

Right now it's not really justifiable though with its price tag

For example you have Greg here delighted he's got better performance from the update, but whereas back when BF4 running Mantle after an update that improved it he'd critise Dice/Mantle to the max-'it's crap'.

First off, Mantle was proprietary and only AMD could use it as opposed to Raytracing, which is open, secondly Mantle never gave any graphical improvements, whereas RayTracing does and thirdly, what are you on about? I am all for game improvements but you are deluded to think I was critical of Mantle to that extent. I have never been a proponent of anything closed source, so maybe you read what you wanted to as per usual without actually reading what I write?

Edit:

I did some searching for what I said about Mantle and I actually praised it up for what it gave AAMD users, so where the dickens have you been seeing me post such nonsense? Are you telling lies to make yourself feel better?

I wonder how much RT is actually being used, getting up to 70fps is impressive as Gregster says. They could be really heavy handed with it. Sugar is nice, but too much sugar makes you feel sick. In future games, Id be interested to see how much of it gets used. even the slightest touches can make a big difference.

The optimisations are basically combatting the ‘too much’, it’s dialled in and focused where it makes more sense. It’s promisong though that as a bit of a flagship developer they are finding and solving with NV to yield pretty good improvements.

Map dependant but sitting roughly 50-70 fps on Rotterdam at 3440x1440 with everything maxed, including Raytracing on Ultra. I am impressed.

Sounds good mate, looking forward to seeing it in the flesh later - though I only played about an hour so no FPS to compare the old version.

Half of those threads on that^ first page is the usual gregster defending himself not being Nv biased so go figure.

You had hundreds if not literally in the thousands of posts on Mantle, Nv's closed off G-Sync, gpu physics, Nv exclusive GW's effects-nah nothing to see there or at most 'aw that's a shame' surprise surprise, Mantle was an issue because it's closed off-gtfo!

You posted a BF4 vid showing your Titan running faster than a 7870 think it was @humbug that posted 7870 Mantle performance, except you used lower settings, you were gutted with Mantle mate, no one here long enough is going to disagree otherwise unless they are firmly in your pocket.

Hmmm, think I'd still prefer 100+ without RT though, esp in a BF game...
I am normally the same but in truth, I am that old and slow now, I will take a game looking good and me dying over a game not looking so good and me dying :D I really suck at it also :D :D

So no apology then? All you had to say was sorry and I would have left it but nope, you dig a bit deeper to try to make yourself look billy big balls. Show me where I am anything like what you accuse me of and I might take you a bit more serious but seriously grow up and be a man and apologise!

It's the usual canned-grow up time, whatever.

Original point still stands, wee on me and I'll wee back in the PC space and round and round it goes.

Think ill come back later when things in here calm down a bit......
My bad, I shouldn't bite when I get sucked in to a load of rubbish.

Anyways, I hope everyone see's a nice boost like I am. Far from the 1080P 30 fps that was being thrown about :D

I'll find out later but agree it's not anywhere near as bad as 30 fps, running on a mixture of settings with a 2070@1440p with RT and SP running higher than 45fps, so hopefully a nice boost on the new patch/driver can get it higher.

Completely agree, and yes very encouraging. It's the first game, get any issues ironed out and with the way nVidia support developers, future games can only benefit with the work put in now.

All good here. All ultra @ 1440p 70/80fps.

Whatever they have done to achieve this boost is very welcome in my opinion. Looks and plays amazing now. Have not tried MP so all testing for me has been SP.

if they can expand the RTing to more than reflections then with the next round of cards i can see a lot more people being interested...if the prices come down a bit too...

damn you lot.... i have gone from totally happy with my decision to cancel my 2080ti, to, now having some regrets.

At least my pinball table arrived yesterday which is where the saved RTX money went ;)

That pinball table would probably you with more entertainment than starring at puddle while getting shot and failing your team at in BFV :D

IMO BFV is not the best game for showing off Raytracing...pretty sure there are games of other genre would be better at doing this.

Anyways, my performance with everything set to max @ 3440x1440, including RTX and I really like it. Plays very nicely and far smoother than it was before in DX12. I am impressed and frames are more than acceptable to me.

Quite impressive to see Ultra settings at 3440 x 1440 and playable frame rates. Is the field of view of 55 default? I prefer 90 myself. I would personally drop some other settings to get a more constant 60+FPS, not that it would make any difference for me, I'm terrible at BF :/
Thanks for the vid Gregster.
