Hi guys,

So I've had an MSI "Air Boost" Vega 56 since early this year. It performs well abd overclocks comfortably.

My biggest issue with this card is the noise, when gaming even with headphones I can hear the card's cooler fan. It's audible many rooms away, which is ridiculous.

What's the best option for aftermarket to get the noise down to quiet levels?

I have 5 bequiet! silent wings 3 case fans and the Dark Rock Pro 4 Ryzen cooler. The rest of the my system is near silent even at full load. The Vega kind of ruins that as soon as I fire-up a game!

@Lokken86 has changed his reference heatsink with another air one.

Have you undervolted your card?

Yeah, it runs 1620/980 at 1030mv.

Temps and stability are not an issue, temps are mid 70's. The issues is the reference fan being a loud design, at 2,400 rpm it's just a hairdryer.

It doesn't matter if I run stock, undervolt or overclock, the fan is just loud and horrible! :(

Maybe try better thermal paste and pads. Worked well for me on a 780ti with the Nvidia blower and an AMD R9 290.

I just don't see that being the issue as the temps aren't high, mid 70's is quite tame. Anything approaching 1,500rpm on the reference loud is loud, over 2k is horrible. It amazes me this thing can actually run past 3k rpm - sounds like a jet engine.

i think from memory you do need to buy a separate vrm kit though as there is either not enough or you shouldn't use them due to them being conductive and shorting (pads dont cover the vrms fully or something). cant rememberer exactly so you may need to do some reading.

Funnily enough I was just looking at a review of that, silent with the right 120mm fan(s). Ordering!
you beat me to the edit:

Isn't the ram on a Vega part of the cpu di? I think the only stuff around on the pcb is power delivery.

yes, they still need cooling. (vrms etc).
alternatively you could leave the base plate on for VRM cooling, the baseplate needs hardmosdig though. your choice really.

Well, I've installed the Morpheus II and wow, what a difference!

I've used just 1 x 120mm bequiet! silent wings and it's inaudible, barely runs past 1,400rpm and full load (72'c).

This is overclocked too, just pushed everything a little harder to 1660 core and 1000 ram.

No drama, absolutely no noise.

its a good cooler by all accounts, large though. did you use all the heatsinks to cover the vrms and doublers? also did you take any pics? :)

I did indeed cover the vrms on top and the underside. It's large, but the only pci card I have so no issue... and I'm used to large, I have the Dark Rock Pro4 cpu cooler!

I can take a pic, everything in my case is black though - so it'll be black on black, with some more black. :D
