Leaving mbp for iPad pro

No, lack of a file system and stupid iPad prices for large storage versions is prohibitive for what I generally use mine for.
I am considering replacing my 2017 MBP with one of the new MacBook Airs though, for form factor and less weight.

I'm not fussed how powerful the iPads are, they're just not as simple to use for document editing etc as a laptop. They can make it more powerful than my 2017 15 inch MBP for £300, and it still won't replace it.

I have a macbook pro, and an iPad pro, and really I find the iPad useless. For the apps it runs its great but for general computer like usage, web browsing, looking at and maybe editing pdfs or documents it's useless. I recently took it on a short break and found getting video on there to be a royal pain. If it wasn't for a certain app subscription I need, I'd sell it and get something else.

I use LR on my iPad Pro, the software is slick, better than desktop LR in many way however the workflow is just a mess.
You’re forced to import into iOS photos, which I don’t to do, then have to import from there into LR, then export back to Photos. Why importing and storage can’t just be managed direct in LR I don’t know.
I don’t think you need to put back in LR you can just view it from LR I would anyway. Once you put in LR delete from camera roll

It's just a mess of unnecessary steps though.
That could change if people suggest to adobe. As adobe have been listening to there customers I believe with improvements they have made

I’m not sure it’s an Adobe limitation, it’s the way Apple force you to do things as there’s no proper file system.

This is a limitation enforced by Apple, Adobe have no way around it....ios will not let you move or store image files anywhere other than to/from photos specifically, the file system issue.
Essentially photos on ios is the only 'folder' it's app is allowed to read and write images from.

It's just a crappy way of working, quite why Apple insist on hampering their tablets like this I don't know, probably to protect the MB line.
If they keep pushing into the pro space with the iPad Pro this will have to give eventually.

I keep both, I don't think iOS does justice to the hardware of the iPad Pro to be honest. If I am properly seated at a desk, kitchen table etc I will always use the MBP.

With the current state of iOS, my iPad Pro can never replace my laptop. If anyone happens to give up on their mbp's for the iPad Pro, they never really needed a mbp/laptop in the first place.
I'd love to use my iPad Pro for everything, but until there's a proper IDE for iOS and a file system, it just won't be up to it for me. Although I have got around this with a Remote Desktop tool that I use to code on my iPad via my MBP or PC.
After selling a MacBook Pro 2016 and iPad Pro 10.5 to fund my 2018 12.9 pro, and using the iPad since I got it I 100% agree lol

I have been an iPad user for a while now and currently have a 10.5 which I really like but my chief complaint is simply that it was a little too small (I like to watch videos and do a lot of reading and whatnot). I actually borrowed a laptop (not a MBP though admittedly, but a Win10 2in1). After using it for a couple of weeks, then switching back to my iPad, I've just gone and ordered a 12.9 2nd gen. What I learned was, I don't need a laptop either
Sure, if I had to do proper work, then it wouldn't get a look in, but as a leisure device, it's practically unbeatable. And I ADORE the hardware on the iPad Pro line, the screen and speakers are simply superb. I would have gone for the 2018 model but got a refurb grade A 2nd gen for not much more than half of the price. I might get the gen 3 when they replace it in 18 months or so.Whilst I like the keyboard but can’t justify it £199 price tag
