FPS Metrics are Flawed: GamersNexus

Great video on why FPS isn’t everything.....

Funny thing is - I created software to measure this and visualise it using the frametime output from a game benchmark, etc. around 2 years before the review sites started talking about it or changing from using min/max/avg FPS and before other tools came along:

And got no end of negativity over claiming that frametimes were important and that what happened within a second mattered especially a lot of nasty comments from the usual AMD lot because it showed that CF at the time was more prone to microstutter and a poorer experience than SLI. These days it is pretty much accepted.

Frametimes are really important, during their recent i5-9600K review GamersNexus experienced some serious frame stuttering, as bad as 0.1 seconds. At least GamersNexus have started do frametime plots with their reviews.

I been banging on about this for ages myself. 80fps vs 100fps "Random Numbers" Freesync or Gsync blind test most users wouldn't tell the difference. Its only when you start to drop below the magic 60fps do most users start to feel the downgrade in motion. for me the magic number is above 80fps games feel that same 80 vs 100+ etc

144hz display so 144hz I can feel and Freesync keeps everything in check.

I run BF5 Ultra 1440p and get around that 80-120fps and it feels DAM smooth!! 2.01KD :p Owning

PUBG feels awful due to the nasty frame time!

I've noticed this too. There is just something "off" about the frame-times in PUBG. G-Sync can only do so much to help alleviate the problem. The map Sanhok definitely seems to be the smoothest though. Not sure if it's because it is small, or they used lower poly assets, or both etc.

I played Assassins Creed Odyssey and at 4k on my laptop at all max it runs about 25fps, have to say I'm surprised how smooth it feels at the FPS.

In Quake or Counter-Strike it'll feel awful if you're used to pegged 144 - 125fps if it drops below 100fps. More so Quake Champions since there is no RAW mouse input.
