Hello,

I am in need of a decent computer thats affordable yet capable of running most games. I don't know the lingo so im finding it extremely difficult to find something that would be worth it. Im looking for a gaming pc and a monitor that will not need constant upgrades and that is not too expensive. My price range is a maximum of £8/900.
Appreciate any advice on some of the right places to look.

Thanks

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £903.83 (includes shipping: £15.90)

decent monitor
prebuilt system - different configuration from base: added 16gb ram rather than 8gb, added a 480gb ssd for better system/program responsiveness. removed windows - can get this cheaper elsewhere.

intel/nvidia version, i5 over the stock selected i3, faster 8gb ram selected, replaced single storage solution with 120gb ssd + 1tb hdd, replaced stock selected 1050ti with the 1060 6gb and then added a slightly different screen, but IPS panel.

I have just bought this build now minus the monitor. It's crazy the parts that I were buying were costing more or less the same. No point me trying to learn how to build a pc.for an extra £100 to what my build list was I am getting rx590 instead on 580. 2tb instead of 1tb, 480gb ssd instead of 240gb and 3 free games. Only down side is trading off my listed 550w seasonic gold psu for the 600w bronze supplied, but it still has 3yr guarantee so winner I think.

Thanks guys

I think it’s a great PC for the money! Ryzen 2600 over a i5-8400 any day! Crazy deal!

think the intel is still stronger for gaming like they always been, but yeah for the price of that bundle at standard it certainly is a cracking setup of a deal.

The i5 8400 is 2.8GHz-4GHz maximum, with no OC potential, and is 6 cores with no SMT, and costs 33% or more than an R5 2600, which is 6c/12t and can be OC'd on all cores to 4GHz+

Tell me why the Intel CPU is faster or better again? ;)

ha that maybe so, i was just quoting what is usually mentioned by people on the Intel vs AMD debates and people always suggesting intel for gaming due to stronger cores and amd for price/performance;)..

me personally dont believe in everyone wanting a gaming computer to be interested in overclocking to make suggestions for them like that, plus intel are pricey hence no K in that build i put.

I think you've kind of missed the point, even at stock speed the AMD CPU is the better choice since the all core boost on the Intel i5-8400 (which is what we are talking about) maxes out at 3.8GHz with MCE enabled in the BIOS, and if you need to do that you might as well go into the Ryzen BIOS and type 38, 39, or 40 in the multiplier box, and that is your overclock done.

As for IPC or stronger cores as you put it, is pretty much identical if you compare it across several/games applications, and the SMT helps in some too, which the Intel doesn't have.

i5 8400 £209.99
R5 2600 £149.99

Hardly a difficult choice. :)
