Hey there,
I've had my current gaming rig for about 6 years now and it's about time I upgraded. I have a 1080 which I don't feel like I need to upgrade just yet and my monitors are pretty decent too. I also have a gold standard corsair power supply (I think it's 750w), would I need to replace that after so many years?
Everything else could do with an upgrade.

-MOBO
-CPU
-RAM
-SSD (I have 128GB one right now)
-New case (ideally on the small/none flashy side)

I've been out of the hardware circle for over 5 years now and have no idea what is good/bad/affordable/etc. I'm currently reading through the forums looking for good ideas.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
Luke

That all looks spot on apart from the case, not much of a fan. I'm looking at this one instead but I'm unsure if it will fit my MOBO/GPU:

Ok, changed the motherboard for you:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £693.21 (includes shipping: £12.30)

Don't know about the 1080 GPU, though. Can you post a link to its description?

what screen res and hz you currently gaming at with that gtx 1080?

also whats your current CPU?

ryzen is better value for money - intel will get you the horse power as your 2700k is clocked faster all cores then 2700x is . but...intel costs more

also depends on whats games you play , if your bit old school, needing best single core performance etc

At the 1440p he is GPU-starved, single-thread CPU performance does not matter.

yeah, I'm not expecting 144hz on stuff like Battlefield. I mainly play games like, Path of exile, WoW, and League of legend. I'll be upgrading my GPU next year most likely.

Question, do I need to buy a CPU cooler too? Is that still a thing?

It amazes me how old CPU's still hold up...

Make sure your GPU has enough clearance between it and the PSU shroud, even though the shroud has ventilation holes in it they may be partially blocked by the PSU.

You don't "need" a CPU cooler as there is one in the box, the AMD coolers are pretty good but you will need to change it if you plan on overclocking.

You must stop thinking everything is GPU related. Run arma games at 1080p to 4k doesn't matter what GPU you use, it's CPU bound. 50% of flight Sims are also CPU bound, and single core speed bound too.
Indie games are also single core bound .
Prob could find a 1000 games easily in steam that are CPU bound at 1440p etc etc .

OP uses a mix , wow now finally has better thread optimisation along with BF games loving Threads, LoL and PoE still single core speed .

Hey guys, I went ahead with the build above but unfortunately I've run into some problems with the motherboard and am having to replace it. What would be a good swap for the:
- Gigabyte B450-I AORUS PRO WIFI (Socket AM4) Mini-ITX Motherboard

(I'm having to choose a different one because OC are out of the above Mobo)

Does the above Mobo have onboard graphics? lol...

:)

Issues with Aorus ?

Rep on here @GIGA-Man is needs be .

Board was designed with z390 version. VRM prob the best of the b450 boards and even some x470 due to the IR units .

Okay, so I made the mistake of assuming the board had an integrated GPU and would output without me plugging in my current one. I was wrong. Believe the information on the OC website is slightly miss leading, either that or I'm not understanding it properly.

Quote:
"Onboard Graphics Outputs Integrated Graphics Processor
- 1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60 Hz
- 1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@60 Hz
- Maximum shared memory of 16 GB"

Either APU like 2400G 4 cores 8 threads

Or £40 gt 730 to get monitor working

Onboard graphics output is provided by the CPU if appropriate.

AMD apus like 2200g and 2400g.

If you installed one of those in that mobo you would be able to use the onboard HDMI port.
Standard ryzen cpus currently have no integrated GPU.
