Road Cycling

I used a tyre "worm" or "anchovy" a few weeks ago to fix a cut that was too big to seal. Since plugging it, it's been fine. I believe they are permanent fixes.

Is that the same thing as above? How much did you trim them?

Just worried that it will come out when riding and it's too small to do anything with.

Yeah that's a tyre worm thing like from this kit: https://www.evanscycles.com/innovations-tubeless-tyre-repair-kit-EV150146

I didn't trim it at all. You just ride on it until the protruding bit falls off and the rest mushes into the cut/hole.

I'm still very happy with my tubeless set up for now. It's definitely saved me several times so far in situations that would have required me to change a tube normally. I run them on my winter/commuter bike but I'd definitely consider it in the future for my "best" bike with some nice tubeless carbon hoops and fast tubeless tyres like Pro One or GP5000-TL.

Ah ok thanks. I might just fold them straight (so they follow the direction of the tyre) and see how it goes. I imagine it won't go anywhere as it'll be pushing into the road each time it makes contact with the road.

Fingers crossed!

Just found out my CLX64s are tubeless ready too. So I may consider going tubeless on my summer bike too. We'll see......

Sweet nice one, will wait til jan sales mind... :)

Put the brakes and FD/RD on yesterday and some wheels for reference. Ordered some cheapy seat post and bars, got a stem here and just need my BB to arrive and I'll be nearly there.

+1 I run Pro Ones on my nice bike and will use them through winter. I've had one puncture so far that sealed fine which saved me changing a tube in the cold, so it's so far so good.

I got a good deal on these wheels but definitely considering a nicer tubeless set for next summer and a training tubeless set for winter with slightly more robust tyres though.

Gave the R5 a run on the turbo to start getting the fit and check gears.

It’s so quiet! Quieter than any other bike I’ve built.

Seatpost up, bars down, bar angle, seat up more, bars down more! Seat forwards a touch. Getting there! Maybe go to a 120mm stem but will have to run the fit calculator. It’s only a 110 -6 on there so not super aggressive at the moment.

Riding the TT for the last 5 months even not a lot has obviously built some core strength.

I am quite close to the seatpost insertion limit. It is still inside the frame but I guess I only have 10-15mm to play with, my old frame could run a lot more but then that was a traditional round post from 3T. This is bespoke Cervelo. I’m not sure it could be head games but I’m sure I can see slight movement in it.

It won't come out when riding, but I did have one work its way out when my bike was parked up at work in full sun in the summer this year. It was already running at relatively high pressure so just don't over-inflate and you'll be fine

By the way, re:tubeless punctures. For more permanent fixes I use standard inner tube patches on the inside of the tyre. Not worth doing for every single little cut in the tyre, but if a few build up and the sealant is getting a bit old anyway I'll generally just take the tyre off, patch up all the holes I can see and then remount the tyre with fresh sealant

I've spent my day upgrading my Boardman from 10 speed Tiagra to R8000 Ultegra. I'm 90% of the way there but still need to adjust FD and wrap bar tape tomorrow. I've proper had enough for today and am now realising why I normally pay someone else to do this! :o

Tape wrapping ain’t too bad. It does take a while to do properly, more so when you have to get tools out etc which can be as long as doing the actual job sometimes!

Removing the old set with care, installing the new. Torquing all the bolts, running new cables.

I don’t like paying someone, it is usually not difficult to do. I like to do it myself so I know how it works and if I have a mechanical I can fix it.

Wheels for me are one step too far, lot of time and experience in building a good wheel. Happy to pay someone else to do it for me.

Cut half an inch off my fork steerer, looking better now!

It wouldn't be anywhere near as bad if I didn't live in a tiny house and had a garage to work in rather than the living room! Can't wait to move somewhere bigger in a couple of years time.

Felt like I was on Zwift with the draw distance turned right down today, basically never left a cloud all day.

Can feel it in the legs 60 miles/3.5 hours at around 4 degrees and I've not been out so much with the two colds I've had(puts my skinny folk get ill theory to shame).

Plan on getting out on Christmas day for two hours. No kids and the missus is working gainz bruhhhhhh

Never stopped raining all day today, plus with xmas stupid/madness no riding on the road for me.

Tomorrow’s forecast is better but risk of ice... then it gets better the rest of the week but won’t be able to ride with family commitments! Grr

I ended up going to the gym and using the Wattbike today as I realised I don't have any decent cable cutters to sort the Boardman out and don't have a thru axle adaptor so can't use the Bianchi on the turbo. I've ordered some now (along with some new Castelli bib shorts to hit the minimum spend for a £10 voucher I had - classic man maths there) so hopefully can get that finished this week. Looking forward to giving my legs a bit of a rest over Xmas tbh!

Anyone planning festive500 this year? Weather looks much improved on the last few years with mild temps and relatively dry period by the looks of things! 38KM completed prior to work, will aim for another 55-60 tonight to give me a good start, although nowhere near as big as previous years when I've usually got 160-180KM in on the first day!

I’d like to however away three days at least so no chance. Might get out for a couple of 2-3 hr rides all things being well.

Replaced my ripped hood this morning.

You can see the lever shape difference between the early (left hand little stumpier) and later (taller and a little thinner) 22 speed shifters. The left shifter hood wasn’t ripped too bad however those are smooth and the later ones have grip to them.

I fitted the later one, had to trim the fittings inside and around the shifter. Will see how it goes & if it conforms a bit better or not, otherwise I might swap back to the original.

The RHS fitted no problems, and obviously the fit is perfect, I put it in hot water to start off with and made it easier to fit.

Nearly got doored earlier today

Needless to say the perpetrator got an earful! I wasn't doing silly speeds, but it would have hurt. Other than that, was a decent ride (shortish but hilly)!

Be extra, extra careful out there. Self-preservation and all that. Merry Xmas all.
