The problem is in times gone by this would have been a matter for the police/justice system but these days with social media, SJW lynch mobs calling for sacking and businesses terrified of boycotts and reputational damage by said mobs mere accusation can result in the total ruination of a person. Loss of job, loss of reputation, possible loss of family due to trial by media and all without the police or justice system even being involved. Terrifying times.

Look at the Judge Kavanaugh thing in the USA, I would hope that in 50-100 years time people have regained enough sanity to look back on that like we do women who were accused of witchcraft being dunked in water to see if they float as a test. What both things have in common is someone pointing the finger and then a bunch of idiots who think actual evidence isn't necessary using pseudoscience to assign guilt "he admitted to really liking beer that must make him a rapist", "he has a really bad temper so I believe her", "she can't even remember where it happened but I trust her memory that it was him 100%".

Pretty much exactly that, 200 years ago the mere accusation that you were a witch was enough to be the end of you. Well fast forward to now and the exact same thing, expect the gender has been reversed. If your a man and you get accused your well and truly fudged. Regardless of the truth.

A large minority of the people accused of witchcraft during the infamous witch-hunting time were men, with the exception of one country (Finland? I'm not sure) in which 90% of the people accused of witchcraft were men. In most places during the infamous witch hunting time of the past, "magic" was associated with women, but in that country it was associated with men.

The "dunked in the water to see if they floated" was the least bad of the trials by ordeal, which was why it was associated with women. The other trials by ordeal were much worse and usually imposed only on men. They usually resulted in the person being killed by the trial and posthumously judged guilty because they were things like picking a stone from the bottom of a deep container of boiling water, walking on 9 red hot ploughblades, holding a heated piece of metal and walking a certain distance. You might sink and be pulled out before drowning and be declared innocent. You had no chance with the others. Unless they were rigged to save you (which did happen sometimes), you'd either be killed by the trial or be declared guilty and executed. No way would you escape being burned by those things.

They were also sort of illegal by the time of the infamous witch-hunting time. The Pope banned them in 1215 IIRC. Not because they were unfair and grotesque (although he might have thought that personally) but because they were unchristian, too much like weird pagan magic ritual stuff.

Also, at least in England, some degree of sanity remained and most of the accused were acquitted (by a court trial, not by trial by ordeal).

My Christmas party was absolutely superb, apart from the time when a rather attractive young lady whispered in my ear that she had grown horns and then asked if I wanted to go somewhere else with her to feed a duck or something. I can't keep up with today's yoofs. She was rather upset when I didn't acknowledge her newfound horns and declined to help her feed her duck :confused:

It's looking like identifying as a women is the safest way to navigate this crazy world, it won't be long until I might be able to as a white man identify as a gay black woman and carry all the major power play cards and be untouchable in today's workplace environment.

The guy has a high pressure job and likely a bit of baggage beyond the work place. If what he did was REALLY inappropriate, an incident like this could have tipped him over the edge but he would have gone over it sooner or later.

The fact that something doesn't always happen doesn't mean it never happens. If great harm can happen, it's a risk that should be considered. Not everyone was accused of being a witch, but some people were and it was a very serious problem for them.

I didn't presume him guilty, i presumed his death as a result of other pressures whether guilty or not. Where did i deny any existence of discrimination?

I was merely commenting that his death is unlikely to be a directly related to a few work complaints. Despite the DM spin on it, we know neither the nature or severity oft he complaints.

The biggest presumption made in this thread is that he killed himself over an office complaint.
