Hi guy's i've been gifted with a new monitor over christmas. My card doesn't support that high and messed around with resolutions and made some progress but it's all still to grainy. I've never been able to get my head around computers so would really appreciate some help. Current set up is.

Gtx 1060 3GB
i7 4790 @3.60GHz
16gb ram.

The new monitor is 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160p. 4ms AMD Freesync.

If i was to just upgrade to a 1080 would that do the job with what i have already?
I don't stream or edit i just play a lot and still like settings high because it like the look of the game more that way. Other than what i've put i know nothing more about computers. Thanks

Hi, it is not a problem to run the games at 1920x1080, the monitor switches to the lower resolution, no problem. I don't see how it would be possible all to be still too grainy

AMD Freesync means that optimally you need something like Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5 or better Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB HBM2. But the latter may require a more powerful power supply unit.

How big g is your 4k, as normally then are 28" plus.

25" is the max you want for 1080p as the pixels are LARGE, and if you don't use filter settings to smooth out the pixels, looks like your playing mind craft .

Make sure you AA settings are up high

For gtx 1060 card

Gtx 1080 scale to 1440p and golden

From comparing the monitors on 1080 the new monitor is suffering a lot. Even more so when in the action. I'm going to upgrade the card which is going to be a nightmare.

What exactly do you see? Can you give more details about the in-game settings and what model is your monitor?
Do you see tearing and stuttering, then this is definitely the fault of the 3GB graphics card.
3GB is nothing nowadays.

For high settings at native 4K in the latest demanding games, you really want an RTX2080 if you can afford it. The RTX2070 will do it, but some games you'll have to settle on medium settings in some of the very latest games.

Nvidia pricing is just not great right now. The GTX1060 3GB is pretty hopeless for 4K gaming though. Even a GTX1070Ti or upcoming RTX2060 would be huge upgrades.
