Road Cycling

Pretty sore legs but knocked out 120km today so that’s the Festive 500 done for myself and my wife. Lighter winds and mild temperatures aside from today (windeh) actually made it nice to go out. Had a puncture today sealant wouldn’t fix but the tubeless worm things sorted it. Pretty handy.

I had two punctures on the rear today. Still managed to limp home but that was the last straw and got new tyres fitted today. I think the others were on their last legs anyway.
100km to go for me

Best product/purchase of 2018?!

Think I’ll say the Silca Saddle Roll (very on trend roadie style).

Yes it is expensive. However it is well made, the materials are nice, and the boa fastening system just works perfectly. No rocking, movement or noise. Easy to remove and swap between bikes if needed. Hides behind the seat and you don’t even notice it when riding.

Finally managed to make it outside for a ride today, despite being a tad bit hungover. It may have been filled with blustery winds and drizzle but my god it made a nice change from being on the turbo!

Been out 5 times since Christmas Eve, but they've all been pretty short rides. Hadn't even heard of the Festive 500 until it was mentioned on here. I'll be nowhere near that figure, although I'm not aiming to be!

I went out too, even in the drizzle, I’d usually sit on the turbo but mixing it up. Need to get those longer easier rides in!

Just have to factor in an extra hour at the end to wash & clean the bike and relube the chain.

Pretty happy with my riding year.
Less miles than last year due to some time off ill in January but they were higher quality miles ;) [Climbing 57ft per mile and 20.5mph average overall speed over 5.1k miles]

Nice work!

Mine is not impressive enough to post. Maybe at the end of 2019? ;)

Relevant to Veloviewer/Strava, does anyone know of a tool that can find local segments that are closely matched to a target segment? Say for instance I want to practice for a climb I'll be tackling on holiday, is there anything that will find climbs with similar gradient profiles/lengths? If there's nothing out there then I'll have a look at the Strava API and see if I can whip something up. I don't want to reinvent the wheel though!

Most impressive SDK, as usual!

My mileage is again only around 2,500 - although the vast majority of my miles are track, tend only to average around 16 or 17 miles per session, with just the odd session running over 20 miles. I commute to work here and there but that's only 8 miles each way. Can't see me ever getting into the realms of 4,500/5,000. Might set a target of 3,500 for next year and see how that pans out.

Got myself a Sportive in Feb and one in March, fingers crossed for 4c or 5c temps, any lower than that and it's a bit dicey.

https://www.doogal.co.uk/strava.php is a far more powerful version of Strava's own segment explorer, with the filters you could find segments in the ballpark for your target holiday climb, I'm sure.

Ticked over 8100 miles for the year this morning and 330,000 ft! Biggest year I've ever had, hopefully even more next year in the same amount of time :D

Approximately 7500km for the year for me. Not too bad.

I got off to a good start in the first half of the year doing 100km every weekend for a few months, but then cracking my frame in July and rest of the year struggled a bit due to that and other factors.

Picked back up a bit now I have my frame back and see what next year brings.

If you had told me this time two years ago I would get stats like this for 2018, when all I was doing was ~28 miles and ~1100 feet of climbing a week of commuting, I would have said you were nuts.

Approx +1500 miles, +163,000 feet and first century (which included that max elevation stat) compared to 2017. Had to double-check the running stats, had to run to catch a land train at Center Parcs! ;)

And finished the year on a high note of setting a second PB within the last week for my best 20mins of power, 308W up the Zwift "Mountain 8" route. :)

Happy New Year, fellow cyclists.
