Hi can you guys spec me a decent motherboard sub £200 for the above cpu. I also want a sub 300 graphics card that would allow 4k gaming on our 4k tv

Hi

You might have to lower some settings depending on the game in question to get a good framerate at 4K with a lower end gpu.

What case do you have (ATX, mATX, M-ITX etc) ? And also do you know the make/model of your power supply ?

Assuming your case can take an ATX board, and your psu is good enough I would do something like this for £500. The Vega 64 will do a pretty decent job at 4K but my opening statement is still applicable.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £502.08 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Hi,

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £195.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

The closest to and below 300 graphics card:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £249.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Some games may need anti-aliasing disabled and instead of ultra high, to set it to very high.

Personally I would go with the Asrock X470 Taichi, though it’s £210 as I have the Strix board myself, the Strix board really should be a sub £150 board!

Check out Hardware Unboxed or Buildzoids reviews on YouTube, both channels have good videos on the B450/X470 motherboards released recently.

If you go for B450 then get the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon as it’s hands down the best B450 board.

Spend as much as you can on the gpu. At 4K you want as much gpu horsepower as you can get. Ignore the suggestion about the RX 590 as it isn't powerful enough for 4K gaming.

A £100 board is perfectly fine for that cpu.

As for the psu go with a good quality 650W and it should last you. A Bitfenix Formula is a good budget option.

He wants to game at 4K though. Spending that much on the board doesn't leave enough for a higher end gpu. He is better off going with a ~£100 option and spending the rest on the gpu i.e A Vega 64 or similar.

I have already proven you to be incorrect though. The RX 590 won't cut it for AAA games at 4K. It is just a glorified RX 580 with a bit of a clock speed boost. It isn't some magical new gpu.

Taken from PC Gamer:

The RX 590 isn't meant for 4k, at least not in the demanding games from our test suite. It would do great in Overwatch or CS:GO, though. Going from 1440p to 4k typically cuts performance in half, assuming you don't run out of VRAM (eg, all the 4GB and lower GPUs), and the RX 590 follows that trend. A few of the games we test might break 60fps at 4k medium/high, but in general you'll want to stick with a lower resolution.

Can we finally put this to bed now or are you going to continue arguing ?

Do you genuinely believe the stuff you post?
The 590 is between a 1060 and 1070, nowhere near enough for a decent 4k gaming experience!

Why do you insist on giving bad advice all the time? what is wrong with you?
People come here to get advice on what is the best option for them in their own personal situations. I think you should be banned from posting here for suggesting a RX590 for 4k gaming.

@Mogbat975 Listen to lee32uk, his first post is your best option.

Thanks for all you help everyone my first build will be:

ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING MOTHERBOARD
850 GQ M3X3E1E PSU
1Tb BarraCuda 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive
Vengeance Pro RGB 16GB Memory
Carbide Series® SPEC-OMEGA Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Case
Some kind of SSD
Upon reflection i dont think i can push for a £400 gpu so still undecided.

I would go with an MSI or Gigabyte board over the Asus Strix. The Gigabyte one I linked above will be more than fine for your cpu. For MSI there is the B450 Tomahawk and B450 Gaming Pro Carbon.

Is the Vega 56 in your price range ? You don't want to be going any lower than that or you won't have a good time at 4K otherwise in AAA games. If you look at that pc gamer link I posted above you can see 4K performance with a few different gpu's to give you an idea.

RX 590 and wait better times with the 7nm GPUs which will be released later on.

How will that work exactly ? He already mentioned that the Vega 64 is out of his price range so what makes you think that Navi will be any cheaper ? And for the last time an RX 590 isn't good enough. Read the link I posted above
