Asus Strix 2080 Ti availability

I disagree that all 2080 Ti's are equal. I had an Aorus and returned it and then got the Strix. Performance is exactly the same pretty much, but noise and thermals are night and day better. If you are putting a waterblock on it then it doesn't matter, but staying on air I would definitely pay the premium for what is the best cooler (along with the FTW3 probably, which is even more difficult to get at the moment). You are spending a fortune with these cards, do you really want one that makes an awful noise at this budget?

They do seem really hard to come by and they are the most expensive for such a little gain but its your cash money and do with it as you please. I think others are just giving their opinions rather than being salty, things over text can come across differently to how they were meant. I like gigabyte so have matching mobo and gpu. I would have the Aorus memory as well but the 8pac stuff is to good for me to justify changing for looks lol

They aren't equal, but the price discrepancy is not reflective of that difference. I also think many people are forgetting we haven't seen anything yet. Just wait until the custom PCB MSI Lightning Z and EVGA Kingpin cards drop (and they won't be the only ones). The prices of those are going to make eyes bleed!!! These cards will be closer to £2K than £1K, and yet you can get a 2080Ti for three figures if you shop around. I'm struggling to think of a GPU in history which has seen anything like this?!

Future generations are going to blame us for this mess.

The NatWest 9080Ti - truly affordable GPU power*

*Only £9999 when purchased with your next mortgage over 25 years. Normal retail price £15,000.

The problem is that what you're saying seems to give the greenlight to exorbitant pricing... the Strix 2080Ti is not £500 better than the cheapest 2080Tis. It simply isn't when their in-game performance will be broadly identical and imperceptible (outside of noise levels and temps perhaps, although temps will still be well within range). Yet you're suggesting this doesn't at all matter if you can afford it. Which is silly and nonsensical. Where does that line of thinking end? When does it become TOO expensive? The answer to that will be different for everyone. It's not an argument, it's actually a rather dangerous mindset which benefits no one in the grand scheme of things... not even Nvidia or AIBs, as the continual ratcheting up of prices will backfire on them eventually. You could argue it has already for that matter.

I’m afraid the line of thinking is as old as commerce it’s self. Why pay the extra for a shirt at Debenhams when you can get something perfectly reasonsble at primark? Why buy a flash BMW instead of a more reliable Toyota? My wife’s wedding ring cost a small fortune, you think I could have gotten away with an off cut of copper pipe on the day? Imagin if all the guests were served with tramp cider instead of Prosecco, both taste like ass but the end result is the same.
Those who can afford to will pay the extra for something just that little bit better or just the belief of such. Social media hype is a big factor too. A YouTube giant like Linus Tech Tips rocks a particular card in some crazy overclock project, that’s premium hype right there!
The big firms are playing up to this that’s just the way it is. Don’t like/can’t afford it? There’s plenty of other firms offering better value, always have been in most cases.

It's not quite the same thing. We're talking about two GPU's which perform IDENTICALLY in games. No noticeable difference in that sense. You get the same performance despite paying 50% more! That's nuts. It might run a bit quieter and it might run a few degrees cooler, but THAT'S IT. There is no difference in build quality or warranty either. You are getting an intrinsically better made shirt at Debenhams vs Primark. A BMW has more expensive components than a Toyota, is better built and engineered, not to mention drives different and would have potentially different use cases. They aren't even close to being nearly identical.

Unfortunately in most cases people are under the false impression it simply MUST be better because it's more expensive. Of course, some people will have money to burn and won't care regardless, but plenty are just misguided and/or misinformed in to thinking the price of a GPU is directly linked to its superiority which is far from the case.
