I'm currently using my own kit, including one of the white Huawei modems but have been offered free upgrade from BT to go from copper to fibre?

All it says is it can all be done in the background and they'll just send a new hub out.

Am I right in saying I'll be forced to use the new hub instead of the Huawei and my existing Asus router?

They appear to be?

Why you need a free update?

You’re currently on the old copper network which is less stable and slower than our new fibre network. We’re currently moving all of our copper customers to fibre for free, so don’t miss your chance to secure your free update today.

- offers A more stable and reliable broadband connection

- offers Free update for the same price you pay now

- offers Faster speeds – average speeds of 50Mb

It's quick and easy to complete your update

1. Confirm your update

We're ready to update your broadband – continue below to confirm

2. We'll activate your update

We’ll take care of everything in the background and update you

3. Enjoy better broadband

We’ll send you a BT Smart Hub – just plug it in for your more stable and reliable broadband

Not sure whether that'll mean having to use their newer hub though? Was hoping someone here would have had the same message before I go through with it.

A 50Mb average sounds like a normal VDSL FTTC connection. If you're using a Huawei HG612 then that's presumably what you have at the moment?

Yeah that's what's got me confused, we already get 45mbps and it's a HG612 we use.

Have a look here and see if it mentions anything about FTTP? ARe you currently just using ADSL?

https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

FTTP isn't available, so it's looking like I'll still be able to use my existing kit

Yeah I'm thinking it's a mistake, according to them I'm on superfast fibre plus and with no FTTP in the area, I'm thinking it's just an account portal mistake.

That's a really strange thing to receive if you're on FTTC already. Really starting to push the limits of when it's acceptable to call something fibre.

Our street was upgraded a year or so ago, everything is now supplied FTTP for BT, no option for FTTC. Price still the same, though.
