a friend of mine has an OCUK PC we specced from here a couple of years ago. He wants an RTX2060 GPU, would it be a total bottle neck in the current system. its not worth getting an i7 as its cheaper to by Ryzen and motherboard. Would the PSU be able to handle it. Im thinking get a new PSU and the RTX 2060, upgrade to 16gb RAM, then get a new Ryzen 300 CPU and MOBO later on,.. which brings me to the next one, if we add 16gb DDR4 3000mhz plus will it still work ok and just default to 2400mhz?.

or just wait until all products are released and the budget is available

i would add that hes started to stream games as well, which puts demands on the CPU

i5-6600 @ 3.3GHz
GTX960
XFX XT Series 400W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply
8gb DDR4 2400

what board chipset does he have ?

would get a streaming card even if an i7 4 core was added personally

PSU tier list has been updated

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/986897-psu-tier-list-30/

older tier, the PSU is tier 5 so would personally replace and guessing out of warranty

bequiet are highest tier units without breaking the bank. formula which is good budget option is tier 2

My basket at Overclockers UK:

would just run the current CPU till ryzen 3000 , where ryzen 2000 might drop in price or snap up 3000 series instead .
replace the PSU with the rtx 2060 and ride out the 8GB of ram - hold off streaming or pick up second hand streaming/capture card

current board is Asus H110M-K Intel H110 (Socket 1151) DDR4 Micro ATX it was done on a strict budget last time

you could slap second hand i7 6700k or 7700k with bios update to gain extra speed and threads which would help in games like BFV and streaming but still couldn't use it to its full potential , specially when you can overclock them to 4.7ghz .

worth having a look at prices on them second hand, but when you can grab ryzen 2600/1700 + 16gb + b450 board for £350 odd its hard to justify spending £150 odd on a CPU.
also run into issues if core system is moved to ryzen, you'll need to change to 3000hz ram at least as 2400hz does hurt perfomance and you'll notice latency issues with it when streaming /recording .

jumping to budget intel upgrade , 6 cores over 4 - least you'll be able to reuse current ram and add more later and not have to worry about performance impact

but intel are releasing 9400 9th gen which im guessing will have a faster speed to compete with ryzen 2600x , also non iGPU version to keep costs down a little

I think I will go what you originally said GPU and PSU for now (possibly another SSD too) then Ryzen mobo, CPU, RAM when available.

The only issue with this, is muggins will end up installing the new kit and end up being tech support. If he wants to wait a few months then i will spec all the above into a custom OCUK build no sense in keeping just the case

i think the few pounds saving on PSU is not worth worrying about, i will get him to go for a 500 at least maybe even 600. I will post again when i get some feed back thanks for your input
