Lockshield sheared off

Hello all

Fairly new house, wife has been complaining about the radiators in terms of how they individually heat up.

Did a bit of research and decided to balance them all, however on turning the lockshield on one of the radiators the lockshield tab sheared off leaving the valce fully or partially open.

What's the easiest way for me to replace this valve, I have two valves in the tool box just need to know the easiest way (short of paying a plumber) to do this.

I have google the subject but my worry is that because it is open if I start messing about I'm going to flood the house.

Appreciate any thoughts.

This happened to me just before xmas. I call BG honecare. But to do yourself get a couple of freeze packs and freeze pipes before quickly swapping valve.

It was a 10 minutes job for the British gas fitter that turned up, on a Saturday at 1830 I was very pleased with the service, bonus was she was pretty fit as well

I think we pay £10 a month for the British gas home care, which is annual service plus free repairs to boiler and heating system.

where did the lockshield snap ... can't you cut a groove say ... and maybe apply some heat or antiseize

But to do yourself get a couple of freeze packs
these were obviously discussed critically in other plumbing/cartridge thread .. do you have first hand experience ?
