Latest Gillette ad suggests their customers are broken, toxic and need "fixing" through feminism

Imagine an advert aimed at women showing all the negative things women do, it would literally never happen. Neither would you say as Black people are responsible for other Black people.
It's the patriarchy, not men. I said that in the bit you quoted.

What is it with these companies these days attacking their base?

It's happening a lot. I think its real easy to see which companies founders are still at their companies and which aren't. Because these virtue signallers are bad managers.

It's about time people started boycotting these companies on principle. If nobody bought anything gillette even for 1 day it would send a message.

To be honest, there is some truth in the advert and many posters here seem to take it as an attack on men on behalf of women or something when it really isn't the case.

There has always been a stigma associated with men/boys being emotional/vulnerable

The 'boys will be boys' attitude when one boy was being picked on is also a fairly common view among the older generation (we saw OCukers show it in that Syrian boy being bullied thread)

There is also truth to saying that violent gang culture reflects old, outdated masculine culture eg. success through dominance and aggression.

I don't see the advert as an attack on men but rather the acknowledgement that what use to be thought of as acceptable and part of being a man, is no longer acceptable. I agree that it takes a bigger man to stop a fight than start one, to tell another guy he is stepping too far when making someone else feel uncomfortable and to swallow their pride and show vulnerability when they need help then hide it or take it out on others.

If people could bring down Gillette over an advert like this, Nestle would have not survived all these years.

FFS the message of the boys fighting isn't that they shouldn't be fighting, it's the phrase "boys will be boys" that is seen as problematic.

But seeing 'Boys will be boys' as problematic is in itself a big problem. What are they supposed to be? Girls? This is why we have so many gender confused kids these days.

Its nothing to do with being gender confused, its turning a blind eye to someone getting picked on because you find it acceptable part of growing up a boy.

This pretty much sums up why discussions forums are dying :p

I’ve added some comic emphasis but only for my own personal amusement.

I like how you're framing the saying "boys will be boys" as if it's exclusively used to dismiss bullying. Like honestly are you a real person? Boys will be boys can be used if a group of lads come home covered in mud because they've been playing football, you could use it because they've been play fighting and someone got a burst lip or something, radical feminists have hijacked the saying and you've immediately bought into it like an absolute bot.

Its not the phrase that matters, its the bullying part. I thought that was obvious?

The kid was being picked on and they just stood and watched, the phrase was just used to show that they acknowledged that he was getting picked on and it was okay. Mbennet is the one who seems to think that part of the advert is about the phrase rather than the bullying...

I like this la... person's take on it. https://twitter.com/CarolineHirons/status/1085140132225789957

"If @Gillette really want to make a change perhaps they could start by looking at their pink ‘Venus’ range for women that includes names like Passion and Embrace and costs more than the men’s ranges for the same thing. Thanks."

Personally I'm just sick of being lectured by adverts. How much plastic waste are Gillette responsible for adding to the planet? Having said that, I'm not sure I'd want a cardboard razor. :-) But for the love of notional god, just cut the posturing.

Oh my, saw the advert this morning - it was 18K up and 187K down :D

What a horrid advert though, they sell things to shave hair off of your body - why suddenly jump onto numerous bandwagons, that seem to want to demonize men? Are they hoping that bad publicity = free publicity? Do they honestly think people can't find an alternative shaver, as I'm sure a lot of people will, after seeing this tripe.

The phrase is indicating that it's a normal and accepted part of male behaviour.

The phrase 'boys will be boys' to me means they will get up to no good, cause mischief. Its never meant to me they have a free pass to be sexist, misogynist or whatever other 'ist' you want to apply.
