Windsor Davies dies

RIP, one of my favourites when I was a kid - even though I missed the nuances I’m sure - a great actor and, from what my father tells me who met him, a fine man.

And yes, balls to the P.C. Brigade, this (amongst many others) should be re-run.

I still insist on using "Sing, Lofty, sing!" to encourage any singer within earshot, no matter how good/bad/indifferent they are. RIP

I know what you mean - I’m always using the “Oh dear, how sad, never mind” one.

Really sad about this as I was brought up watching IAHHM, although I obviously didn’t fully appreciate why it was so good until I was older. The Sergeant Major and Basil Fawlty are my two favourite comedy characters of all time. I see so much of myself in the way they react to things - frustration in Basil’s case and outright fury with Sergeant Major Williams.

There was something pre-Fast-Show-esque about the way he used to bawl out Mr ‘La-De-Da Gunner Graham’ - you knew it would happen at least once in every episode, but it was still funny when he did.

By all accounts, a lovely bloke and the complete opposite to his most famous character. RIP.

Didn't realise his wife just died in September, probably a contributing factor :(
I reckon so :(
He was a very nice bloke by all accounts, unlike Melvn Hayes (Gloria?) who came across as a bit of a **** when I met him years ago.
