2 Mile Commute - Electric Bike/Scooter?

It's only 2 miles, walk it. Not only is it good for the health, but it's also good for everything else.

I walk 5 miles a day for my commute, 1.5 miles from home to ferry, then walking around other areas throughout the day before walking back 1.5 miles via the ferry.

One man's reasonable is another man's peak challenge. As before, it's only 2 miles, and it won't be the full 2 miles of uphill. Unless you're reasonably unfit to begin with, this is not an issue whatsoever!

I walk 3.5 miles to work every day and the first 2 miles are up a pretty steep incline, started out really hard but I’m so use to it now I don’t even get out of breath. Heart rate still gets up to around 165-170 though at the steepest parts as I’m power walking.

Whole walk takes around 45-50 minutes.

Would walking actually be that bad.

I know you have had surgery and do not know how this has affected you. But even though cycling is low impact on the level it can be hard on the knees too if you are having to negotiate hills.

Would you be able to walk with a suitable knee support/walking trainers?

Exercise post surgery is very good for healing given it doesn't stress the joint too much. Unfortunately the impact on the knee when walking can be too much for someone in recovery. My father walked too soon and too much after his knee replacement surgery and never recovered properly. He can barely get around without a walking stick because of it. I will add that he was walking around as soon as 8 months after and not the 2 years in the OP.

A lot of health professionals recommend a exercise bike or cross trainer on recovery as it allows for light exercise without an impact to the joints.

Walking would be viable depending on how the healing has gone i guess.

Husky dog slead on wheels.

In all seriousness, I am not sure what the legal position of that in the UK is. There must be some sort of exemption for training but I was always under the impression, that unlike other parts of Europe, the use of Dogs to pull carts on the highway was specifically prohibited in the UK.

Tbh, I don't want to talk about this much as I'll get in trouble. I once asked who made good knee supports in a thread and apparently I was seeking medical advice?!?! My surgery only really tidy bits up, torn minuscus I think. Drained fluid etc. One of my MCL's is not in good shape, my PCL is rather knackered and I have almost no cartilage left. Walking two miles isn't a good idea. There might be days I would cope, but others would then be painful for the 3 to 6 hours I have to spend on my feet during my shift. Anyway, so if we can just stick to the brief in the OP that would be appreciated :)

I dropped in to Halfords on my way home, they had a Carrera Vulcan E with £250 off to £1,000, which didn't seem to bad. I waited a little while to talk to someone about them, but they were busy. I'll try another time perhaps. I am wondering if I should just try regular cycling while it's cold... but my problem is, as soon as I step inside a building, I'll burst into sweat.

I'm on the waiting list for two new knees and I sometimes have to walk with a stick.
I can verify that I have zero impact on my knees while riding an eBike.

Take my advice, buy a second hand bike off Gumtree but obviously go and see it first and try it, you get some great bargains.
When you've found your bike, fit electrics to it, we have a couple of threads on here dedicated to it.

I think people are perhaps mixing impact and strain?

I have a bike already, is it quite easy to get it converted? Do you have links to the thread? Thanks :)

Pedelecs is also a good forum

I use Cyclotricity parts on both my bikes - battery, wheel, controller, computer, throttle etc and a monkey could install it.
I have two front wheel motors but you can also get mid drive and rear if you so wish.
