Why have I done this?

Well, it's kind of depressing, you wake up and what do you do? Automatically browse Facebook.

Beast From the East, Scandinavian Ice Blasts, Love Island, Gemma Collins and "Cyclists don't pay road tax" was the final straw.

I find Reddit is much more easier on the mind, in total control of what I see, not filled with trash unless I choose to look at trash, so much better.

Anyone else feel similar?

My facebook feed contains none of that stuff. Surely it depends on who you're friends with?

Exactly

Same with all of these platforms you follow people that post drivel then you get drivel. If the OP want to stop using Facebook, or whatever, then good for them but a large number of people use it without problems and stopping using it isn't "cool" or something.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've not done it yet but like you I probably go on Reddit a lot more than Facebook now. At least it's tailoired to your interests. Only reason I stick around on Facebook now is for events and the odd person i would prefer not to lose complete contact with.

I deleted my FB account about 2 years ago when I realised that everyone I care about in the world, I see on a regular basis. Those that I don't care about, I don't care about them for a reason.
It's just a constant willy-waving competition mixed in with fake news.

Also been off it for about a year, dont miss it, as mentioned above its full of crap and fake news. Its tiresome trying to battle "friends" who constantly just share any old crap without checking its veracity.

Yeah, I stopped using FB regularly about 6 or 7 years ago, and deleted the app from my phone completely about 2 or 3 years ago, when I got irritated with it draining my battery.

Mrs Cheesyboy still uses it, so I don't miss out on events or whatever. I use twitter for news and entertainment, but don't follow any IRL friends. Whatsapp gets used for friends.

I got rid of my Facebook a few weeks back as I was seeing more ads and videos of crap than I was posts from people.

The final straw was when my girlfriend and I were talking about something one evening with our phone next to us and 15 minutes later both of us had it as a recommended ad on Facebook, not one of us had Googled it or done anything 'online' about the topic. I've had this before myself and thought it was just a coincidence - Call me paranoid but don't trust Zuckerberg one bit. Smug little **** IMO.

Exactly the same here, been about 18 months for me.

Now i'm officially not on any social media platform.

App has been deleted for a few years now, it’s tragic the stuff that gets posted/shared on there, especially if you’re from or have mostly friends from a small town/village. Closed mindedness would be an understatement.

I thought about doing a friend clearout but just can’t be arsed with the process and now I log on once a month or something to check notifications. Messenger app still comes in useful.

I don't have the app on any of my devices, my account is active but I don't post any photos or updates and log in once a month if that to have a quick look.

Yep!

I notice most people say they are leaving (some even close their account) but come back a month later. I'm not going cold turkey, but over a good few months I have been slowly removing my friends.
Down to about 10 now. It gets to the point where the only thing you see are ads, and at that point you simply stop using it with no desire to return.

Last week I closed my facebook connected spotify account so I really have no ties to the platform.

Deleted the app too just after Xmas.

I don’t have any major issue with it per say, but as people have said it’s just willy waving, fake news and retards.

My main reason was that it was just so much of a time suck, I’d get home from work and quickly check someone someone had sent me on Facebook and before I knew it 20 minutes had passed of me just scrolling through rubbish!

Yeah I binned facebook off a couple of years ago. Don't miss it at all.
Also ditched reddit, twitter. Don't miss them either.
Still use a small amount of youtube, linkedin.

I have championed Facebook for years on OCUK and now I have deactivated my account.

Upon proper reflection, it doesn’t actually add any value to life. If anything, is contrary to mindfulness and living in the present. The enjoyment one gets from Facebook is quite hollow (i.e. nostalgia) and the sense of connection with others that it provides is an illusion (or similarly hollow).

It is nothing but a time sink. You could say the same for this forum, but I suggest this at least encourages engagement on some sort of higher-ish level.
