Should I downsize? (New Job, less miles)

And much less pleasant and comfortable than sitting in an automatic Lexus listening to the radio.

Exactly. For starters it has a windscreen, doors, a roof and a seat I won’t need surgically removing from where the sun doesn’t shine.

The Lexus has heated seats for the winter and cooling sears for the summer. It has a smog filter developed for the yanks. And the radio is played through 17 speakers. What are the benefits of a bike?

Why are we worrying about mpg on a such a short commute. Sure fair enough with the old job doing 200 miles a client’s site but it’s just not worth changing cars over.

The benefits are an hour or more free time per day. Plenty of exercise. Reduced fuel costs.

So why compromise and downsize?

You won't get 50mpg in a diesel in that sort of. Journey. High mpg in slow traffic is smaller hybrid or plug in hybrid or electric vehicle if you can charge it at home territory.

Yep in traffic nothing except a hybrid/EV is going to get good mpg really. I drive around the same distance to work getting 30mpg, but it costs me less than taking the bus (including fuel, tax, insurance).

Quicker, healthier, fresh air, zero fuel bill, sense of superciliousness from saving congestion and saving the planet.

Actually you probably have cleaner air inside a car as it's filtered lol. Also he said it's uphill on the way home, that definitely won't be quicker.

11 miles in 1 hour, wow. Downsize to a bike or an electric bike.

Fresh air? My route includes 2 stretches of road which have been defined as hazardous to health due to the pollution.

I drive a hybrid ... that is enough saving the planet for me at the mo.
