Fly-tipping

I originally planned to use the title "Why are the English such disgusting pigs?" but decided instead on the blander "Fly-tipping".

Why is it that the English are incapable of getting rid of their rubbish in a civilised, considerate manner? I have visited many countries over the years and it seems only to be in third world countries with no rubbish collection or refuse disposal sites and in England that simply dumping unwanted rubbish is deemed acceptable.

Red Bull, McDonalds, KFC and others should be subjected to a 1% tax on turnover to pay for the collection and disposal of the rubbish that their customers toss away so inconsiderately.

People caught throwing rubbish out of their car or van windows should have their vehicles confiscated and crushed. People caught fly-tipping should have their houses turned into rubbish dumps.
It's one of my pet hates.

People will gleefully drop litter three feet away from a rubbish bin.

It's such a pointless crime. Nobody benefits. There's nothing to be gained from dropping litter. The amount of effort required to find a bin is often minuscule.

Grinds my gears. We sometimes do litter picks in the country lanes near us, because it's so disgusting. 99% beer cans; Costa Coffee cups; McDonalds packaging. We're a classy lot, obviously.

So you think English people are solely responsible for fly tipping, despite a lack of empirical evidence, and you think private companies are responsible for their customers littering, even when they take reasonable steps to stop that happening. And your solution is a tax. Why do you hate your own country so much?

sadly, I have found a hatred of their own country somewhat of a depressing theme of some posters on this forum. The brexit thread is stuffed full of them.

I think there's a large majority of middle class lefties who just hate their country, they dislike the white working class, they hate concepts like Patriotism and anything associated with it like the England football team, they want to remain in the EU simply because they hate their own country. Essentially they're just a bunch of snobs. The type who's main goal when choosing a holiday destination is that no other British tourist has ever set foot there.

Agree 100%. They confuse patriotism with rabid nationalism. You’re patriotic, therefore you must be a nationalistic xenophobic racist. It’s utterly sickening,

That thread is toxic even a slight hint of disagreement and you're a racist piece of crap.

I hate driving along a rural road only to stumble upon as flytipping site. Absolutely makes my blood boil. But its seemingly quite common in my area. About a year ago, one of the country lanes I used on my way home from work was completely blocked by a load of domestic waste dumped by some troglodyte.

You think wrong.
But nice attempt at trying to align disagreement with Brexit as unpatriotic. Nothing could be further from the truth for me.

Its one of the things I noticed when I moved to the US - there’s no litter by the side of the road and that’s because they have people who get DUIs etc out picking it all up.

You’ll be driving along and see a van from the local jail, a police car and about 10 people in hi-vis jackets with “I got a DUI”, etc on the back, all picking up litter.

You wouldn’t get that in the UK though as it’d be against someone’s human rights or something.

Oh and if you want rid of appliances, furniture etc you put it out by the curb and it’s usually gone by the next morning.

The US is a big place, bigger than Europe. Try going to somewhere 'successful' like San Francisco, or to a failed city like St Louis and have a look at the sidewalk there.

Apart from cities where it's required by the council for you to just dump **** on the street to be picked up "later", i don't really care about the countryside tippers, maybe don't make it so difficult to legitimately recycle/trash something?

But that'd mean not voting for Tory's who've slashed council budgets to the bone, oh well, get what you vote for, a failing state.

In your opinion.

Im sure there's a subset of people of probably get off on constant derision of their own country. But Roar87 is one of several posters on this forum who cant seem to get through a thread without turning into a rant about "lefties" at some point, so his opinion that there's a huge majority of "snobs" who he thinks despise their own country just because they have different politics to his own, should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Yours too, if you genuinely think that thread is full of people who hate their country; I see lots of people in it who disagree with you, and who despair at the current state of it's politics, but very few who hate it. You don't have a monopoly on patriotism.

Back on topic, I agree somewhat with the above point about council tips; making it difficult to dispose of large items, or imposing too many rules, means more people inclined to flytip. But at the same time, council refuse sites have to be controlled somewhat to prevent them being used commercially.

A lot of councils just charge too much now for disposal. I’m quite lucky with my council. Residents can dump two tonne a year free of charge. We have a local weigh in/weigh off centre.

Is that enforced? I'm in Medway and I can just drive in to the local refuse site and dump as much as I want, it seems. Not even any checks that I'm a Medway resident. About the only rule is "no pickup trucks", and even that doesn't seem to be enforced. I know Dartford BC has different rules and you have to display a resident permit on your windscreen to use the site, but there's no checking on how much you're using the site.
