Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.

I am thinking about buying a Ninja Blender and I have a doubt regarding the guarantee. In their website, they mention 1 year of guarantee.

My question is: shouldn't this be 2 years? Are they misleading people?

Iirc you are entitled to get a repair ,replacement or (partial) refund for up to 2 years under eu rules but in the uk the soga gives you up to 6 years, but it can depend on the cost of the item ,the usage you’ve had out of it ,fit for purpose , the expected lifetime of the product and whether it was an inherent fault, oh and I think there’s also something about custom made products

Think of the six years as a time limit, that doesn’t mean the product should have lasted six years

It’s not really a guarantee as such

Manufacturers and retailers can also offer their own limited guarantees but your contract is with the retailer so if anything is faulty after the guarantee expires you need to go through the them

Depending on circumstances you could seek compensation through the courts with a small claim

It’s all in the sales of goods act if you look it up

Don’t take my word as gospel though as my memory is a bit hazy , it’s been a while since I’ve needed to know my stuff when trying to get something refunded

Saying that it’s now called the consumer rights act but it’s pretty much the same

I prefer the push for making everything repairable again, but that supposes that manufacturers would release spare parts to the market.

One analogy is throwing your PC in the bin because a memory stick gave up outside of guarantee. Luckily IBM insisted on an open system for PC compatibles.
 
Goats prefer grass, in some exceptional circumstances they might take a fancy to small children and nuclear physicists but this is rare.

More often than not, a bowl of Kellogg’s Frosties will pacify them enough for you to get clear.

The Sales of Goods act 1979 is no longer in force, it was replaced with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If an item is faulty in the 1st 6 months it is effectively presumed to have been present from manufacture unless the retailer can prove otherwise or alternatively if it's 6 months to 6 years old you can still get a replacement or repair but you have to prove that the fault was present at purchase.

Yeah this.

It's amazing how much "not fit for purpose" gets banded about too. Just because it's not fit for your purpose does not make it fit for the items purpose, unless you were miss sold it. But that's going off on a tangent.

You are not even entitled to a full refund under the new act.
 
Thank you all for your inputs. It looks like this Consumer Rights Act 2015 isn't of much use, or in other words, it is useless.

Will probably choose some other blender like a vitamix when on sale or another blender in a physical shop where I can extend the warranty case it need be.
 
If you can’t understand how the legislation is useful, have someone with a legal background explain it to you properly.

I believe it’s fair towards both consumers and businesses; balance is key.
You have up to 6 years to seek redress, what more do you want? The queen to deliver a replacement? :p
