Hi guys I was wondering if you could help I'm looking at buying a gaming laptop and what are the best ones to look at in my price range. The Mrs has just been out and spent £700 on a laptop and i said we might aswell take it back and get a gaming one as I could have some fun with it also. I have just sold my desktop that was running a Ryzen 5 2700 and Vega 64 due to space problems so was looking at the compactness of a gaming laptop and also like the idea of the portability of them.

Is noise an issue? When gaming the fans can get loud. I had an Alienware with a 1080 and used headphones, the fan noise was irritating.

You could check the Dell Outlet UK for some Alienware bargains. I got one with next day on-site warranty which I had to use and the power button failed. The engineer came to the house and fixed it within 2 days.

I just wondered is it worth waiting for anything in the pipeline as we are in no rush to buy one. I know the RTX laptops are being released tomorrow but heard bad things about them GPUs

If space is an issue, have you thought about a games console? 20 years ago I used a 19 inch monitor for my gaming setup and I could never go back to a screen that small for an intense gaming session. A gaming laptop would feel like I've gone back to the 90s when people were gaming on small screens. Maybe I'm too cynical.

Thank you for the reply I actually own a xbox 1 X but doesn't get used. Having been pc gaming for a while now I just can't go back to using a control pad just doesn't feel natural.

Concerns about RTX graphics cards are overblown IMO.

Retailers are obliged not to sell defective goods knowingly - Overclockers replaced my Vive Pro when it crapped out after 2 weeks.

I've got a launch Gigabyte 2080ti and it's awesome.

Also an Asus turbo 2080ti and no problems there either.

And dont believe the scare stories about micron DDR - both my cards have micron and I've hit them hard with no problems.

Heavy Gigabyte / Aorus presence on here with reps . Think there's 2 covering laptops , o e UK and one Taiwan based if you have any issues

Any idea when they are available and currently waiting on reviews on them as I have read nvidia has gone easy on the boost clocks to keep temps down so don't run as good as the desktop versions. I know this is always the case but the pascal cards weren't down boosted as much as what people are saying they have done with the Rtx series

@baloney @Atom80 maybe @GIGA-Man might be able to help with ETA date

looks like with the heatsink design - should be able to overclock the GPU a little to give it some boost. TDP is a lot higher then Pascal which is why im guessing speed has been turned down a little .

been a while since i've used a lot lap but normally always replaced aweful thermal paste with some good stuff which allowed laptop to run a little faster and cooler :D

also funny how OCUK mobile version shows the price, £2099 but desktop page doesn't

RTX 2060 version plays it out around £1899 . as always more power increase from **60 to **70 then **70 to **80 nvidia gpus

Aero models should be a little cheaper then its Aorus sibling but not listed up here as of yet

Thank you Orbital. Is it an easy job to change the thermal paste on one having never owned a laptop myself I was wondering how this is done. I like the look of the 2060 models as I know they are a good card the only thing that worries me with them is the 6gb VRAM on them

sometimes they can be an absolute mission ! more heatpipes and upgrading cooling means a lot of screws. Some panels as well dont like them being taken apart to . Hopefully Vendors will start to use good paste * hint hint* as Gigabyte now use rated thermal pads in their motherboards, guessing competitors will soon follow suit.

6GB ram isn't end breaking, Bar one game which a damn good forum member on here pointed out, New Metro game running max spec's will eat ram, but is also a well optimised game.

most games use around 5GB at Ultra 4k settings , on average its 3.5gb for 1080p Ultra . most people use High settings and difference from High to Ultra isn't noticeable

sites like OC3D do good game reviews, Res Evil 2 being latets one, showing that 2GB is now dead from Recent AAA games at 1080p

Max settigns , 1440p . 5.5GB of VRam

Just Cause using 3.5gb at ultra 1080p , would expect this to hit 4GB with 1440p/4k

Thanks for all that information Orbital. Eases me on buying a Rtx 2060 version now. Think I'm going to wait for some benchmarks to be released on the 40 laptops that are due out and then decide. I like the idea of the Rtx 2060 with it in desktop form matching the performance of a GTX1070ti its just if this will be the case on the laptop versions we will have to see if not maybe the 2070 versions are the way to go for me.

true, If you can push the RTX 2070 then great ! lasts a bit longer and MORE power. if screen is 1080p then strong CPU will help it
