Im looking to beef up the security of my garage door. What lock would you guys recommend?

I need it to be quite secure as not only does it need to protect what’s in the garage, it’s also a route into the porch bypassing the main Upvc front door.

You can get those bars that bolt into the floor infront of the garage. But to be honest other than that theres not a lot you can do as they can just be pulled open from the top.

Am looking to replace mine with a roller style door this year, much more secure as they either cut the locks off or cut a hole in the door itself to get in (both obviously noisey)

Unfortunately I can’t afford/justify replacing the garage door so a lock is the only option at this time.

I’ve seen 2 different locks that seem to fit the bill. One looks quite strong and relatively easy to fit just requiring a couple of hole drilled and some expansion bolts fitted onto the floor.

The other one looks potentially a bit more stronger and robust but requires a hole being cut into the concrete and the lower part of the lock being set into concrete, which requires a bit more work to get it fitted.

Anyone have a better solution or has anyone fitted either of the above?

If you don't intend to use the up and over door a lot then drill two holes in side of door and matching holes in frame and just push a tight fitting bolt in each hole - if you want more drill two holes in top half as well - This is assuming you have a side door as well.

Don't drill down - the door can be lifted, drill into the side frame and use the twist lock bolts top and bottom. The only way your door is getting opened from outside then is driving through it.

I’ve decided to purchase a pair of Enfield D613 locks to fit in both bottom corners.

I may also purchase a Garage defender master to fit in the middle at some point.

I think that will stop all but the most determined. My van is parked right in front of the garage whilst I’m not at work so it’s almost impossible to open the garage while it’s there, I have house insurance that also covers my garage so if it was broken into at least I’ve made a decent effort to prevent that.

Why not just extra locks on the inside? I always feel like extra locks on the outside draw attention to the fact you don't want people to get in.

Because it’s a narrow garage and will have a car inside which means it will be a bit tight getting around to the garage door.

To be fair the lock I posted fits on the inside, the only thing visable from the outside is 2 coach bolt heads and a keyhole cover. I could always paint them the same colour as the door itself.

God, who keeps a car in their garage nowadays?! ;)

Yeah the two locks are good, and the lack of space justifies the outside lock if you feel its needed.

One that isn’t taxed and insured. It’s a Nissan Pulsar that I’ve had for a few years. I want to keep it dry while I do a bit of work to it.

My comment wasn't serious btw.

Time to get a resto thread started in motors for that Pulsar :) (or do you already have one?)

I knew what you meant :) The people who owned the house previously converted the garage into a hobby train track room. The problem is a lot of garages are not really suitable to park a car inside, car are bigger now than they were in the past.

I may do a resto thread at some point but I haven’t really touch it for a couple of years. Time to pull my finger out :).

Yep. Enfield's for me. Bit of a pain to fit due to offsets, had to pack them out a bit. Work very well. No peeling up the corners of the door.

Ultimately, sure someone could get in if they wanted to, but it's more secure than the neighbour!

Any idea on rough cost for a single roller door?

Currently got an automatic up and over opener but it only holds the door at the top so you get quite a bit of flex if you try to pull it open from the bottom. Might secure it with an additional lock but that makes the automatic opener a bit pointless.

From researching the seem to be 6-800 depending on styles. But can obviously pay much more
